Family kayak trip to Kealakekua Bay
Thu, Feb 23, 12   7:15 AM avallen2002 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Guides Kira and Ryan were knowledgeable, mellow, and kept us all safe while having fun kayaking to and snorkeling at the Captain Cook monument. Our kids ( ages 7,10 and 13) had never kayaked or snorkeled before. It was wonderful to have experienced people help us get into and launch the kayaks, beach them at the monument, and tell us how to get into the water at the marine preserve without harming the coral. Equipment supplied worked great. Snacks were appreciated. Saw tons of beautiful fish. We had a great experience.

Like Snorkeling in an aquarium!

We took the early, 7 am, tour because we read that the bay is calmer, the chance of seeing spinner dolphins is better, and the tour boats aren't in the bay that early. After checking in, getting our gear, heading down to the launch area, the kayaks were unloaded by our guides (they worked really hard). We kayaked across the bay to the Captain Cook Monument. We were given the history of the area while we were kayaking. Once we reached our destination, our guides helped us out of our kayaks, carried the kayaks onshore, and took us to our picnic spot. The guides instructed us how to "jump" in the water without standing on the coral. The coral, many varieties of fish and urchins was amazing. The water was crystal clear. The picnic area was set up by our guides with water, coffee, and snacks and we were encouraged to help ourselves whenever we wanted to take a break. After about two hours of snorkeling, we headed back to our kayaks and crossed the bay back to the launch site. The guides were very helpful making sure everyone was helped out of the kayak safely! The guides again loaded all the kayaks and took us back to their store to our cars. The gear was in great condition, the guides were knowledgeable and helpful. Their love for this bay and it's history and living waters is very evident. I would highly recommend taking this kayak/snorkel tour. There is no better way to see the area! This is the most reputable company with experienced guides that we encountered.

Great work out, company, and snorkeling trip!

Loved our guides, Kyra and Karen, who kept us motivated and guided us safely across the bay and back. The setting is spectacular as is the snorkeling in pristine waters. Go early if you can to have this oasis all to yourself before the big boats get there. But what really made our trip memorable was the affable Kyra who kept us informed and entertained with history and anecdotes of the area. The snacks were good too! It is a bit of a work out but sooo worth it. You will deserve the burger and brew afterwords.

Wonderful Experience!

My husband and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Our guide knew the right place to park the Kayaks, and was dedicated to the conservatioin of the marine environment. Our group got out early & were the first people to Captain Cook's Monument. Everyone was very grateful of this once 10am rolled around and all of the larger tour groups started rolling in. The place gets crowded but our group was done with the majority of our snorkeling by this time. There are also locals that rent kayaks at this location for people to go out on their own. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone; everyone we saw that did that was trying to land their kayaks in dangerous parts & our guide had to play "traffic cop" to all of these people. Also, there was a guy not in our group who went out w/out flippers & found a sea urchine. Our guide had his little emergency kit and kindly removed the stingers and doctored up this man's foot. I can't say enough about this trip; I found it on the internet so I thought it would be a popular place, however, they're the little ones in the area; there is virtually no local advertisement for this place once you're on Hawaii. Enjoy!

We thoroughly enjoyed our kayak trip to Captain Cook monument. Our only wish was that the dolphins we saw had done their "spinning". Snorkeling was great, water was lovely, guide fun and knowledgable. Go for it!

We saw a whale!
Fri, Jan 27, 12   7:15 AM Anokhawaii Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
We took the 7:15 kayak tour with our guide Roy, and we were able to see a whale about 150 feet away! The water was calm, which was helpful for this first time kayaker. The snorkeling was clear and we were there before other boats arrived, so we got to see a lot of fish. Roy let us set the pace, and was informative about the area and it's history, filling us in as we paddled. If you want to see Kealakekua Bay on a personal and peaceful level, this tour with Roy and Joy is it.

Take a morning tour and have the bay to yourself!
Wed, Jan 25, 12   7:15 AM shuenneke Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Snorkeling and kayaking in the early morning along the bay was amazing. Make sure you go for the early trip as there are fewer people crowding the reef and you're more likely to catch a glimpse of some dolphins before the rest of the tourists start harassing them. Our guide was awesome, she pointed out useful facts, let us take our time and generally was a cool person to hang out with.

Fantastic adventure!

We loved the kayak and snorkel tour. Kira was our guide and she was wonderful - there were only 2 others in our group so it felt nice and intimate. We left early (start time was 7:15am) which was nice because it tends to get crowded at the monument, especially when all of the boats with snorkelers show up. We had a lovely kayak across the bay and the snorkeling was fantastic, but the best part was that there were 3 WHALES in the bay, which our guide said she had never seen before. We spent much of our time sitting in our kayaks and reveling in the view of the whales- just amazing. Kira also recommended an awesome place for lunch afterwards- Annie's Burgers - the food highlight of our trip!

Our guide was Ryan on January 8, 2012. He took extra care to make sure we knew what we were doing, monitored our capabilities, and answered all our questions. The trip was easy and fun. Saw a lot of fish and Ryan could tell us what they were. Food/snacks were good too. Highly recommend this operation.

Good introduction to snorkling and kayaking
Sat, Jan 7, 12   7:15 AM jmitch915 Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our guide was very knowlegeble about the area, and also about Hawaian culture and history. We were able to snorkle in areas that other groups were not, and we were also able to land at the Captain Cook Monument. The early morning is definitely the best time to go - later morning the snorkling area is kind of a zoo. The kayaking on the bay and the snorkling was absolutely a highlight of our visit.
