The entire event was very well organized from signing up, directions to get there and of course the kayaking and snorkeling. The staff were excellent, attentive and very knowledgeable. Ryan was a great guide - would highly recommend this trip.

I don't know why, but we were the only two people on the tour (we went on a Saturday morning). Our guides were Roy and Joy, so we each had our own tour guide. Consequently, we were at the snorkeling spot very early and had a lot of time before the boats came and dumped their tourist loads into the water. The spot at the Captain Cook memorial was the best snorkeling spot we found on either Big Island, Maui or O'ahu. Our guides brought plenty of food and their own brand of Kona coffee, and on the way back we even had dolphins join us. What more could you want?

the early departure time is actually good as you get the bay to yourself for at least an hour before the big boat comes in. You will see more fishes with less people splashing about. The Adv in Paradise guides were good.

Guides-Roy and Kera were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable they were patient with us and very helpful in every way. Our experience with snorkeling was limited but with their guidance and explaining so well, made it a good time for us! We saw the dolphins playing and lots of colorful fish. The kayaking was relaxing and a very neat experience out in the ocean. If we return to the big island - hopefully we will - we would book this again!

Easy kayak ride across the bay to a popular snorkeling site. This trip leaves early and gets you there before all the big snorkeling boats come in. Our guide mike was wonderful and knowledgeable. He gave us good suggestions on what to do in the island and the best places to eat. We were lucky enough to see a humpback whale about 100 yards away from us which was incredible! The snorkeling was great, lots of bright fish and a couple of eels. Overall a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to take a snorkeling trip in this nay.

It was a great introduction to Hawaii for two first-timers. Guides Karen and Ryan were professional yet so fun and enhanced the trip with all their knowledge of the area. In spite of rough water, we felt very safe with them. Highly recommended!

Fantastic morning on the bay

Roy was our guide and was full of stories of the bay, both recent and historical. And, important for us neophytes, he has decades of experience on the water and knew how to handle our group safely. The early departure took some work getting up early and was a full hour drive from Naalehu, but was well worth getting out on the bay before the hordes of tour boats arrived. We also had fun with an underwater single-use camera we bought for the trip. Pictures of the divers came out better than pictures of the fish, though. Its hard to hold the camera steady underwater holding your breath and the fish are pretty small for a wide angle shot.

Great, simplified way to visit Captain Cook

We took this tour with Chris just before Christmas. Although we were a family of 5 adults (parents & children), we thought that having a guide to tell us about the area and to take care of all of the 'hard work' in prepping the kayaks would be a good idea. We were definitely right! Chris gave us a lot of interesting details about the area, was very personable, and ensured that our kayaks were maneuvered and parked without destroying the coral. Unfortunately, not everyone outside of our group did the same. Despite a few complaints about the early hour (7am) of the tour, everyone was very happy in the end. There were plenty of snacks, and the snorkeling was great!

Overall, everyone in my group thoroughly enjoyed this tour (except for the one guy who got sea-sick, but that's not the tours fault). The excursion stared a little strange, since the initial bay that we were to depart from was closed by the state for tourism. So they had to move to another nearby bay to depart from. This also made the Captain Cook Monument visit not possible, but we weren't taking this tour for the monument visit anyway. We wanted to kayak and snorkel. This change in plans actually turned out to be a blessing, since at the new bay we got to literally swim with a couple of pods of dolphins! The original by had restrictions on how close you could get to dolphins (not within 50 yards), so if we would have seen them there, we would not have been able to get as close as we did (was within 5-10 feet a few times). The guide (Bree) was very personable/friendly and knew a lot about kayaking and the surrounding area. He informed us of where we could watch some giant manta rays at night for free, an excellent place to enjoy some good kava, and a fantastic restaurant that we likely would not have ate at if he would not have recommended it. Thank you Adventures in Paradise! We all enjoyed the tour and felt we received much more than expected. Great value!

Awesome experience and awesome guide

We couldn't be any happier with our experience and so glad we booked with Adventures in Paradise. The company is located very close to the bay where we launched. We explored Kealakekua Bay where the Captain Cook Monument is located. Its the perfect place to kayak and snorkel. Our guide, Mike Difazio was awesome. Super fun and friendly and was able to give us lots of interesting information about the monument and the history of the bay. He was so helpful that he even helped lots of other people that were not even part of our tour group. He just wanted to make sure that everyone was safe at the snorkel site and made sure that those people new how not to damage the delicate eco system. We also got to see a pod of spinner dolphins while kayaking to the monument and also on the way back. The whole experience was top notch. If you are looking for a kayak snorkel trip, book with these guys for sure. Tyler Kelowna, BC, Canada

The Kayak snorkeling trip was unbelieveable. We got out there early. There was no one there. It was a small group. The part of the reef they have a permit for was the best snokeling I have done. My son played with a monk seal which was his trip highlight. The guide was great and the owners were great. It was the best activity we did the whole trip!
