Exciting Adventure...But Bundle Up

Weather is obviously the big risk in signing up for something like this. We went on 10/10/09 (our 5-year anniversary), and it was a cold, cloudy night. Yes, we saw a lot of great things, took some great photos and the sail was quite exhilarating. Overall, a worthwhile activity. But it was a little colder and breezier than you might want, and the visibility was a little limited. There's obviously nothing you can do about the weather, but it does factor into the enjoyment a little. On the plus side, Adventure Cat did provide good warm jackets if you're warm clothes weren't enough. And the cocktails and appetizers were good. On the minus side, it would have been nice to hear some info about what we were seeing from the captain and crew over the speakers, instead of hearing the breezy, Caribbean music (which seemed a little out of place on this brisk night).

PERFECT ADVENTURE
Fri, Oct 9  5:30 PM alynmike Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
I highly recommend this boating adventure. My visit to SF was just me and my BF and we were looking to take a boat ride that was not overcrowded. This was perfect. We sailed around Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate Bridge. It was cold so be prepared... The crew was friendly, knowledgable and entertaining... Best part of my vacation!

Spectacular experience

My brother and I enjoyed this trip so much more than a standard bay cruise. It was a sailboat, pontoon, small and intimate and also served delicious appetizers and wine. What more could you ask? The scenery was glorious and we passed Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate returning at sundown to the lights of San Francisco. A definite must to anyone coming. LOVED IT !!!!

a great sail under the Golden Gate Bridge
Thu, Oct 8  3:00 PM tahoebyrne Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
My kids and I had a great time sailing under the bridge on the Adventure Cat2. It was breezy and brisk and I wished I had worn a wind breaker, but the sailing was exciting. Our skipper tacked very close to the north tower and then it was amazing to look up at the bridge as we sailed under and tacked again near a small beach outside the Gate. An added treat was the Blue Angels flying overhead (it was Fleet Week in SF) and at one point 4 fighter jets flew in formation just 50 feet above our mast, a spectacular finale! I would recommend this cruise as a unique way to see the Bay.

Excellent end to a hectic day

Our family has very little experience with sailing or being on the ocean, but Adventure Cat made this an easy and fun way to explore the water. We thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent views from the boat and the delicious hors d’oeuvres that were provided. The rest of the group in the tour were very friendly. We had time to visit but also had time to ourselves on the boat just enjoying the end of the day with a glorious sunset. Highly recommend taking time to explore the Pier 39 shops afterward and have a late dinner at Louis Italian restaurant.

Very nice cruise around the bay. Smooth sailing the whole way, beautiful day on the water. Crew members were very helpful and friendly. Next time I will definitely try the sunset cruise.

October 4th Bay Catamaran Cruise
Sun, Oct 4  1:00 PM wr_jenkins Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
A friend and I were in the Bay area this weekend. We enjoyed the sunshine and warm temperatures. This weekend the sky was clear for our sail aboard the AdventureCat 65' catamaran.. It only had fifteen passengers and sailed without a narrated tour. The wind cooperated and this sleek twin-hulled boat moved out quickly. The captain took us around Alcatraz Island and then to a spectacular vantage point under the Golden Gate bridge that provided us with great photo opportunities. I really enjoyed the trip and would highly recommend it to anyone. Especially after sailing past the shoulder to shoulder crowds on the standard Bay cruise boats. Our trip was quietly driven by the wind which made the experience unique among tour boats.

Absolutely Wonderful sail on Adventure Cat!

If you decide to make this your way of experiencing the sights of San Francisco Bay, you are making the right choice. My daughter and I both loved the feel of the wind in the sails and enjoyed the movement of the boat over probably bigger waves than usual - that just added to the fun of the sail. Fisherman's Wharf is easy to find, but we could not find any sign to Adventure Cat. However, you will find it if you go down to the docks on the RIGHT side of the wharf. You cannot miss the barking seals. Standing in front of the seals, just walk to the LEFT and you will find the modest sign for Adventure Cat. Be patient if someone does not come to the gate at 2:30 when you are asked to arrive for the 3:00 sail. One of the mates arrived at 2:40 and we boarded easily on time. The hour and a half sail on the Bay was an incredible adventure! It was a windy day and the waves had small white caps, The catamaran glided along silently and quickly, letting us all on the boat enjoy the sights of the Bay, Alcatraz, the beautiful islands, the little communities along the shores and of course, The Golden Gate Bridge!! Spray in our faces as we leaned a bit into the wind, sights of wind surfers gliding undaunted over the waves! A great trip! A great memory of San Francisco! This must be the best way to be in San Francisco Bay! Really recommend this Adventure Cat experience!!!!! (And there is no motor rumbling in your ears, no one on a microphone explaining the obvious. It is just a quiet adventure!)

The adventure cat was great. I did find out later that we ordered 6 tickets and I was told that my order gve me a free cruise. Could I have purchased 5 tickets and then get a complimentary ticket? The complimentary ticket is nice, but not if you are from out of town.

Wonderful experience sailing under Golden Gate.
Sat, Sep 26  6:00 PM afunes Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The sunset sail was a memorable way to experience the Bay area sights...just make yourself comfortable enough to enjoy it. We were there on a sunny Saturday afternoon & almost froze, even with a coat & pashmina shawl. My husband commented that he needed a coozie & gloves to keep his hands warm enough to hold a drink. A hood or hat would have also helped. Coats are also available on board. One other thing to keep in mind is weather. Some days are so foggy, you can't see anything. If you have your heart set on this outing, schedule it at beginning of your trip in case it is cancelled due to weather. I understood when I booked it that it was non-refundable if I cancelled. But I did not realize that if there were a cancellation due to weather, I could only be issued credit for a later tour. All in all, very professional, courteous crew. Much more intimate than the other sunset cruises offered by other companies.

Great views! No narration though
Fri, Sep 25  3:00 PM mprail Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
My husband and I really enjoyed taking this cruise. It gave us a great view of the bay and the Golden Gate bridge. The only downside, for us, was that there was no "narration" on the trip. Being from out of town, we weren't always sure what we were looking at.
