We did the house tour first. The house was interesting; however, the tour guide rushed us through too fast so we wouldn't miss the bus. She told us there would be plenty of time - but when we got into the house, she zoomed through it. We couldn't linger to look nor ask too many questions. I felt jipped.
The bus tour was exactly the same as the one we went on two years ago. The biggest and most disappointing differences were that two years ago we stayed at the Bird In Hand Family Inn. The bus tour with them was complimentary and it was a small mini-van with an excellent tour guide.
This time, we stayed at the Amish View - which was LOVELY! BUT...the bus was huge. THe tour was expensive. The tour guide was out of breath the whole time. And, this bus tour included a stop at a winery - which did not sell LOCAL wine nor did the sale of wine subsidize the Amish Famlands in any way. It was a "commercial" stop and I resented it. The winery probably pays the tour bus to stop there and bring in customers. I wouldn't have minded if it was at least a local winery or if a portion of each sale helped the farmers - but it didn't. It was for sheer profit and wine sales.
We should have been told ahead of time that we would be stopping there. I would not have paid for the tour had I known.
Also, there were many "repeat" tourists. Is ther any way to change the tour? Visit a different Amish quilter...or farmer? Seeing the exact same thing each time will not make me want to be a repeat customer. |
