Beautiful tour on the Canyon Lake

We all really enjoyed the 80 minute cruise tour on the lake. Breath taking scenery everywhere you look. Narrator provide background and humor in the presentation. The music played was memorable and appropriate to the event.

Nice ride

Once we were able to find the marina everything was great. The ride itself was a nice change from the busy schedule we had. The area really is very nice. Better directions to find the locations would be nice. We had to call to make sure we were going correct. That is when we found out the road we were on had two names and the one in the directions was not the one on the street signs.

A wonderful, relaxing day out

My family were visiting from England and we were looking for an activity that we would all enjoy. Not an easy task considering we were made up of grandparents, parents and children. The Dolly Steamboat was inexpensive, not too long of a drive and a unique activity that we all enjoyed. Everyone came away smiling. The scenery is gorgeous, the captain entertaining and the boat spacious. The only negative thing I can think of is that in the height of summer it may be too hot for some, even though there is plenty of shade aboard the boat. Well organised, on time and helpful staff. The resturaunt on sight was reasonably priced and offered a wide variety of choice. We all cleared our plates. Would definately consider another outing in the future

Dolly Steamboat Cruise on Canyon Lake, AZ
Wed, Jun 10  12:00 PM MelbaJGarris Female Unspecified Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We were among ~ 100 people, including a tour bus of senior citizens, other families and young children, who rode the steamboat/paddle boat on a narrated cruise of the winding lake. The captin of the boat spoke about the canyon and the history, showing us different highlights of the rocks around the lake and we even saw big horn sheep on a steep side of one of the rocky surfaces. It was an enjoyable way to spend an hour and a-half. Afterward we ate at the lakeside restruarant and watched huge carp (fish,) several families of ducks, and big black birds vie for scraps of roll that the kids tossed off the deck into the water. The food was good, price was right and the afternoon was fun. This was June, Phoenix area was in the mid 90's but we were comfortable with the lake breeze, even at noontime when the cruise was offered.

Very friendly, helpful crew. There seemed to not be enough places for people to sit. Eventually people stood to see the items more closely. Ovearll a very pleasant ride.

The captain was really great and did not narrate from some script, and he was funny. Heather was the crew member on our deck and she was awesome and funny also, I could honestly recommend this cruise to anyone. Thanks to the crew and the captain, it was great.

We live in Fountain Hills and are new to Arizona. We were looking for a nice, easy, different and relaxing way to learn more about our new home state and this was a great way to do that.

We were looking for a relaxing lake tour, and that's pretty much what we got. Captain & boat staff did a nice job pointing out scenic highlights and wildlife. Some of the jokes were stupid, totally corny. And the music couldn't quite decide what it wanted to be, mostly bouncing from mellow new-agey (as in, Enya) to tug-your-heartstrings country (like they're "tryin' to keep it REAL."), although I'm pretty sure a couple other musical genres were tossed in there (as if they wanted to appeal to everybody, or else not offend anyone???). Certainly I'D just as rather SKIPPED the entire musical mash-up -- a wind and waves soundtrack would have suited me fine -- and been more relaxing! But if you can ignore all that -- and you don't have a boat at your beck and call -- fair to say, this is decent overall -- where else can you spend $20 a person and get to be out on the lake for an hour and a half -- seeing bighorn sheep and small coves with assorted picturesque rock formations??? Do be aware -- this is more a family/group thing. You'd be okay holding hands, that's about it. If you're after romantic ambiance, look elsewhere.... If you want to eat before or after (because you won't get much on the boat, just soda and bagged snacks like chips, at least not overpriced, thank goodness -- you'll pay similar prices on the boat as at Circle K), the restaurant at the marina is pretty good, mostly sandwiches and that ilk. They don't have their own bathrooms, though -- you have to use the marina's. Which seem to get a LOT of traffic. They're functional if you need one (which is what really counts, I guess), but I'm not even sure soap was available. You certainly WON'T want to linger long enough to apply fresh lipstick. (Sorry, my mostly-subdued girly side is popping out here....) It was about 90 on the day we went. There's some shade, and usually a light breeze, so that was fine. But absolutely skip this if it's 100+ out.
