We moved to Apache Junction from upstate New York in January of 2006. We discovered Canyon Lake and the Dolly Steamboat Cruise and have taken EVERY visitor ever since. Thanks to our Captan, Jeff, he alerted us to the presence of several Big Horn Sheep on top of a cliff. I was able to photograph them.
Every one of our cruises was a most enjoyable experience but this one was extraordinary! Thank you Jeff.
Even though the cost is reasonable, I'm still waiting for my "frequent flyer" discounts!! |

Everything was great -- from the wonderful drive out to the dock on!
I especially like the "board by #" - it avoids the stampede for the best seats.
Only negative comment is the statement to be there 30 minutes before boarding - and there's no one in the ticket office! But the prior cruise showed up 25 minutes before, so things went OK.
The lake is beautiful - the commentary very good. The staff was friendly, and helpful. One word of warning - if you set up front, you have trouble hearing the commentary for the wind and bow splash.
All in all - a very relaxing 1-1/2 hours. |

Thank you for providing a relaxing afternoon. The scenery was beautiful and the commentators were knowledgeable and entertaining. Boarding was handled smoothly and efficiently. This is a great way to show off our beautiful State to visitors and you may be sure that we will be back. Perhaps for the dinner cruise! |

I had friends from Michigan visiting and it was a nice sunny day out on the lake.
They enjoyed not only the warm weather but the beautiful canyon as well. |

It was a very enjoyable day with the captain and crew being very knowledgeable. The only thing I would change is the way the guests are loaded onto the boat. Numbers really do not mean anything when everyone is crowded around the gate and the first 25 get to go on. They should be loaded according to number, the first 10 at a time. It's not going to take any longer and it makes it more fair. Otherwise all you have to do is get in line first and you're on as the captain really doesn't look at your number either. |

A very peaceful, almost spiritual trip. The scenery is gorgeous and the musice selected by the tour operators is perfect for the setting. |

Captain Tom was a terrific narrator of the lake and surrounding area. He knew the geology of the rocks. We even saw some big horned sheep standing on the side of the mountain. Everything was good except for one of the crew members, she was a little snippy. She needed my AAA card when I got there to give me my tickets for my reservation (They should have said that I needed my AAA card when I reserved my spot on the boat), so I had to run back to the car. Also, I wanted to buy some snacks for the ride and she was in the middle of putting the tickets back in numerical order and could not stop instead she told me it would be a few minutes. This is something that she could have done after the boat ride instead of during. But other wise the trip was worth while!!! |

This was our second trip on the Dolly Steamboat. Both were very informative and enjoyable. Captain Tom and the crew did a very good job.
I recommend this trip to many others. |

From the moment you check in with the friendly hostess in the booth, your time of natural splendor and relaxation begins. Ample seating is provided as you wait ( a short wait) for all to check in. Then a short jaunt to the Dolly. The Captain and his crew greet you warmly and are quick to answer all questions, even the silly ones, I think they enjoy their jobs.
My wife and I went with a group of friends from church. We stopped at one of the picnic areas before we got to the Landing, and had an enjoyable picnic lunch. (Get a map of the area and plan a time and spot, thanks to the Internet).
The tables and the chairs on the Dolly are comfortable enough for the one and one half hour tour. The sights and sounds are refreshing, even the very occasional speed boat, and those are friendly with waves of recognition to fellow Lake Travellers.
By no means is this an exciting attraction. However, if you just want to visit a beautifully created landscape, that happens to have a gorgeous Lake in the middle and surrounding of it, on which you can just plain relax ....then I will recommend this tour to you. Bring your camera's and a 16-24 oz. bottle of water. (Drinking water is provided on the Dolly if you run out.)
If you've ever dreamed of renting a pontoon boat and skippering your friends or family around the Lake, you may consider the Dolly Steamboat as a more enjoyable alternative. It's less expensive, less stress, no responsibility (other than don't lean to far over the edge), and the crew has Historical as well as other interesting information to share with you as well. I know I only gave it a Four Star, but that's because it doesn't have the adrenaline some of you are looking for, sorry, I loved it! |
