| bees bees bees! Ok, the cruise was ok. tooled around the lake. went down into the cove at one end of it and back again. lotsa rock cliffs. we did see couple sheep and some ram. bring your binoculars, camera, maybe jacket later or early in the season; might get cold. Dont sit near concession stand. The boat is just a power house boat thats been convrted for the cruise. no biggie there. Get ther early to get seating up top. We didnt so we were stuck inside with cap't's lame tour jokes.
The entrance was swarming with bees. So was the pop machine dispenser INSIDE the boat. There was a BOATLOAD of bees around this boat (boating humor) on the boat, during the cruise and a TON on shore. But the staff didnt care. All n all it was kinda boring and annoying.
Oh, and pretty drive going up there. With windey roads |

| I enjoyed this as my first time on a watercraft. The scenery was beautiful as I expected from Arizona Canyons! The fact we saw big horn sheep was a real treat!
I only wish I could have enjoyed the peacefulness of being on a quiet lake - I found the music distracting.
The narration was great as he pointed out various points of interest, but in between - I would have preferred quiet time to hear the water and relative silence.
Otherwise - I really did enjoy it and recommend to others - we plan to take the astronomy tour when weather warms up for night time viewing! |

Group of Friends |
| Our group really enjoyed the trip. The scenery, and descriptions of rock features by the crew was excellent.
There was a large school group on the boat with us, and we were pleasantly surprised at the way the staff handled them. The group was given instructions that amounted to the "socially accepted behavior" that we taught our kids when they were young. It made for a peaceful experience for all of us.
We are new residents of Az, and brought visiting friends to the tour. We'll probably try a different tour soon. |

| We totally enjoyed the boat ride and the breathtaking views! The staff was friendly and all points of interested were pointed out. I would most certainly return to take another ride. I am sure the evening ride is beautiful also. We were visiting from NJ and our friends who live in Chandler AZ for 12 years have yet to visit, so I told them they must check it out! |

| We are about to move out of state, and before we do, mom and dad (in their 70's) asked us to join them on the Dolly boat ride. To be honest, was a little unsure that it would amount to much. Yet as I have found on the other occasions I've left "the beaten path" within the Superstition Wilderness, this world of beauty and amazing scenery opens up.
I am also a travel writer, so for me, this is something I do, but "took the day off" to simply enjoy - and I did. We all did!
The boat itself is very comfortable, well designed and not at all "sea sickening". They handle boarding very well for those with special needs, like my parents. The staff/crew are very friendly, helpful, and love what they're doing.
We sat at the far back, main floor, and while we couldn't hear everything on the speakers, it allowed us to talk, to feel the peace, to enjoy in a different way. There is food and drinks, tourist pricing, and plenty of options for viewing, sitting, and enjoying. Bathrooms are on board and easy to use.
But the views are what this is all about. The captain knows this area like a native and shares a lot of great information and insights. The views are unique to this area, the rocks and formation interesting, fun, historic and beautiful. You'll ride where once Apache and ancient people lived. You'll see where the US Calvary fought them. You'll see ancient trees that had fallen, and find yourself walking from side to side to take photos or get an "up close" view - though the captain gets you pretty darn close.
This is a trip for most ages.
I can see where a certain range of children might become bored, but in general, I think most will enjoy it for the boat ride alone. There were several small children on board (under 5) and they had fun, but were moving around a lot. Children are provided life jackets - required to wear. Teens may get bored, unless they like this type of thing.
Great for anyone with special needs - they help you, have plenty of great seating, and while you cannot get to the upper deck perhaps, the lower level has wonderful views.
For peace, wonderful views, a nice time to talk, to learn about some history of this area, and just to spend time with people you like - maybe even love - the -Dolly is a great idea.
Hint: if you want to eat at the restaurant afterwards - there will be a rush, food only average, prices at tourist levels. Better thought - go on to Tortilla Flat or back to Apache Junction. |
