Great Activity

I've lived in Arizona since 1968 and I can witness that the trip to and from Canyon Lake is one of the most scenic drives in Arizona. You can stop at the Gold Field Mine, a touristy 1800's style old west attraction, then meander on up the winding road to Canyon Lake. The scenery is breath-taking. Then there's the trip up into the canyons of Canyon Lake on the Dolly Steamboat. I once took a friend from Switzerland on this excursion and his comment on the way back out of the canyons, crossing the lake toward the marina was, "I've seen many beautiful places in my life, but this is the most beautiful place I have ever been." That comment came from a guy who has seen some very beautiful country. After the excursion, do not miss the next stop to the east, Tortilla Flat. It's "old west" to the max and they serve great burgers, BBQ, etc. You can make a day of it on this outing and come away thinking, "What a fantastic experience!"

The crew on the Dolly did an oustanding job. They all very friendly. Being from "Minnesota Nice" country, this really meant a lot. I learned a lot of things about cactuses from Capt Tom that I never knew. I would recommend it to friends. Dawn

This is the second time within two months that I have taken this cruise. The first time I was so busy taking photos, that I didn't get to "see" a lot of things. This time, I sat back and totallly enjoyed the cruise.

I took my parents, who were visiting from the South Carolina, on the Dolly Steamboat Cruise. What a wonderful 90 minutes spent on beautiful Canyon Lake. As we cruised around the lake our pilot told us about the plants, wildlife and amazing rock formations found on the lake. There were also many opportunities to take pictures, which we took advantage of. This was a wonderful relaxing cruise that we all highly recommend. It's a great place to take your out-of-town visitors. Even if you don't have visitors check it out yourself. You''ll love it!

Scenic, relaxing, but fairly vanilla

The cruise provides some beautiful scenery, a relaxing break to the day, but after about 30 minutes (of a 90 minute cruise) you have seen it all. Narratives are provided by the tour guide fairly infrequently with most of the backdrop being an array of oldies or country songs. Coupled with a visit to Tortilla Flats for lunch, it was a nice excursion away from the metro area attractions. This tour is probably best suited for couples who will appreciate the scenery as my younger children (5 and 8) were bored shortly into the ride.

Disappointing

Although the boat is clean and well-run, the narration was really lacking. I supose we were spoiled because a short while earlier we had taken a cruise on the Desert Belle on Saguaro Lake. That was captained by a retired US Geological Service scientist and he was able to tell us about the wildlife, gelolgy, plants and give us some historical stories. Also, the Desert Belle allows you to take on food and drink, and I wouldn't have minded not being allowed to take our on on this trip, but there was a very small selection. If the narration could be improved so it was much more interesting, we would go again with guests. Otherwise I recommend the Desert Belle.

This is not a trip for young kids who are looking for action, e.g., a lot of wild life. It is a great boat ride and the mountain scenery is beautiful. It's a great trip for family get togethers and small groups. Would highly recommend.

Arrived early, but enjoyed just relaxing. Waiting area could use some sprucing up....but overall beautiful breeze and relaxing. Staff was excellent, from ticket booth to captain and crew. Everyone made us feel welcome. Each person was well informed about their job and certainly acted as if they enjoyed it - a welcome addition in todays world. I would highly recommend to anyone traveling in your area.

For one who has had their own boat on this lake I seen alot of Canyon Lake. I think this Cruise bring out the best the Canyon Lake to people who have limited access. I learn alot of things through the Guide. I was impressed that the guide would stop when we saw wild life (Big Horn Sheep) angel the boat so every one would be able to see them. That was the best... I will definetly bring family from back home (Indiana) who visit to this adventure. Everyone who came with me in my group absolutely loved it.

the directions i got for the trip were awful and ended up on apache trail. dont even turn on that road it's so narrow and pot- holes all over. i called at 1: 30pm to get directions and the office closed. i asked many locals where the dolly steamboat was and no one had a clue. very dissapointed that i can't get a refund or 2 free tickets to come again.
