I had relatives here from Illinois and took them on this trip. It was a beautiful trip and narrated concisely and interestingly. I found no trouble with anything except the restaurant which may or may not be connected with you.
We were told our food would be served right away. We told them that we were going on the Dolly trip. It didn't come so we left without eating. Perhaps the instructions you make in the advertising would say to get there long before the trip if eating was considered. Several people left with us which was too bad. Otherwise everything was just great and I'll recommend it to others in Mesa. |

I enjoyed the friendly cruise commentary by the boats captain. His funny and informative banter helped to make the trip pleasurable.
On the negative side. We arrived early and stood in line for the passes we had purchased. When we received pass number 66, the back stated these were given out on a first come basis. A tour bus pulls up late and received passes starting with #1 and loaded first. This angered a lot of people including my group. The pass did not say that tours were given preference to others. This isn't a first come basis. I would have to tell anyone who asked me about the trip about this part of the trip as a warning. It did take away from the trip from the get go especially when a few of the tours group waved their low numbered tickets at us who had been waiting for so long as they walked by us fools who showed up early! The cruise was beautifull scenery but the naration could have included some information about the dam for those in our party who have not taken the cruise before. The whole process for boarding was terrible, having purchased tickets days in advance meant nothing as you still had to wait in a long line that only had one person processing the tickets for everyone. Also the seating was done according to those who picked up the tickets first. Advance sales should have taken priority. Thank you, The Andersons

we could not hear the narrator. the speakers in the bow of the boat did not seem to be working and we could not hear the information that was being discussed. |

The cruise was great. The scenrey is hard to beat.. But unless I had a large party or wanted to go on a busy day such as a weekend, I would not book on line. There is no discount for AAA as there is at the ticket window. Also there is a booking fee The cost of 2 adult tickets at the window is $34. On line it was $44. |

We enjoyed the beautiful overview of the lake while dining at the Canyon Lake Restaurant just prior to our ride aboard the Steam Boat Dolly. Ordering our tickets in advance ensured us seats and streamlined the process once it was time for our tour.
We chose to take the 2:00 p.m. tour and found it to be much less crowded than the trip scheduled before us. Most people chose to sit at the top of the boat for a much better view, however we had a guest who used a wheelchair and so we settled in cofortably in the lower half where the snack bar is located. This provided a comfortable setting out of the sun and wind, and as long as we were able to get close to the windows we too had a spectacular view.
The Captain was very knowledgeable and pointed out many points of interest; he was also witty which added a laugh or two along the way. The snack bar assistant was gracious to all she served and the children as well as the adults enjoyed partaking in the goodies (candy, chips and soda)
This was our second time aboard the Steam Boat Dolly and will surely not be our last. We are already planning to return again next year and will bring our parents and grandparents for one of the lunch or dinner cruises.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who lives locally; this is a great way to spend the afternoon in sunny scenic Arizona and a fine place to take friends from out of town and especially nice for special occassions. |
