The boat left the dock as stated at 5:30. The view of the mountains around us was spectacular! Our food was cooked on a grill on the rear of the boat so everything was freshly cooked and very good. I thought we would receive a choice between the ribeye steak and grilled chicken, but we got both!!! Salad, baked potato, corn, and a dinner roll. About 20 mins before docking, we were served apple pie!

I scheduled the dinner cruise as a surprise birthday gift for my husband. He loves the lake and was in awe when he realized what I had planned. It was perfect for us, not too many guests on board (Friday) so we had plenty room to move about. It was romantic and fulfilled the purpose I intended. The captain and workers were very customer service oriented and that is something I use to gauge anything I do. The departure of the boat was on time (or a little early to me) however, I arrived at exactly 5:30pm (last minute my child ran a fever and that chaged my plans) and the boat had already departed. The best thing was, they were looking out for us and came back to the dock to get us........everyone on the boat and at the restaurant clapped as we borded the boat. My husband spent the nigt fighting back tears because this was the best birthday he has had (or that I have ever planned). :-) We already have friends that want to go!!!! Thank you for a wonderful experience!!!! Ps. Pie was our desert, and I don't eat pie.....so a little cake next time for me would be great!!!
A Relaxed Sunday Cruise Narrated Nature Cruise on Canyon Lake

Taking a cruise of Canyon Lake, aboard the Dolly Steamboat , on a cool afternoon in the early fall, followed by some chili and beer at Tortilla Flat afterwards, was, simply , a very relaxed way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The employees were all friendly and laid back, the refreshment prices were reasonable, and the view was wonderful. This is a good day trip for locals or tourists, families, couples, or individuals. It won't knock your socks off, but that's o.k., because, as relaxed a trip as it is, you needn't be wearing any to begin with.

We thouroughly enjoyed the trip. Whenever people come to visit from out of town we always take them on the dolly. I highly recommend it to everyone. It was more enjoyable than the grand canyon!

This is an excellent day trip for locals. If you are visiting from out of state, you will be shocked by the amazing views. All ages will have a good time on the Dolly Steamboat. My only advice is to try to get a seat in a shaded area, because it can get hot sitting outside in the full view of the sun. Even if you have to sit outside, most people get up and move about the boat during the ride. We plan to ride again after we receive a period of rain, so we can see the waterfalls!

A woman representing a large group cut in front of me in the boarding pass line, thus causing us to be in the last group to board even though we were one of the first to arrive. The problem resulting was that there was not a place where my whole family and our guest (8 of us total) could sit together, unless we all sat in the sun. We couldn't reasonalby do this as we had our baby with us. We would have greatly appreciated some assistance with this situation. We paid quite a bit for a quality family event--we certainly expected to be able to sit together.

We found this cruise very enjoyable. If you have ever been on the Verde Valley Railroad you will find this experience similar. The scenery and wildlife is much better on the cruise though. The meal was good, but if you request upper deck uncovered (as we did) just note that you will eat last. Overall we had a really nice time. As a bonus the drive up to Canyon Lake is very beautiful so if you have time drive out early and enjoy the sights.

If you don't have time to do anything else while in the Mesa area, you have got to do the dinner cruise! IT WAS WONDERFUL!!! The food was very good. Captain, Jeff, was great and the "staff" was wonderful. We had a enjoyable time. We were kept well informed of all of the attractions and animals. Next time we are down that way, we intend to do it again.

What a great evening! We were suprised that you could find such beautiful water related scenary so close to the metro area of Phoenix. Although the road up is a bit adventursome the trip is worth it. A fun ride with lots to see and a fantastic meal followed by a tranquile cruise through amazing canyon walls. Wait until its dark and the stars come out. Try It - You'll Like It!

The Dolly is a nice way to get out on Canyon Lake and see its beauty and possibly some wildlife if you don't have a boat or are not from the area, and don't want to spend the big bucks to rent a boat at the marina. The staff is friendly and the Captain's narration is informative. The boat is comfortable. We took my wife's 93 year old grandmother, who is in a wheelchair, and she had a blast. There is easy ramp access down to the boat and from the dock onto the boat. Recommended!
