Money Well Spent!!!
Sun, Apr 6, 08   5:30 PM colettie23 Female 20-29 Local Couple on a Date
This was one of the most fun things me and my boyfriend have done together! The food was EXCELLENT and the scenery was amazing. We were sat at our own table, which was nice because it probably wouldn't have been as enjoyable if another couple was sitting with us. We were able to enjoy each others company as well as enjoy a wonderful meal together. The commentary from the capitan was wonderful and not overdone because there was music in between and it was very romantic to just be on a boat and enjoy the sunset together. The only thing I was not expecting was that you have to get up and get your own food (in a buffet style) but it wasn't that big of a deal seeing as it was done in a very orderly fashion and handled quite well. One suggestion I would have would be to have a photographer aboard to take pictures and offer them as gifts, to purchase of course, at the end of the night. I know we're allowed to bring our cameras and everything like that, but I just thought it would have been a neat addition to have that option, and then if we wanted to purchase them you could do it online and have a website for it. Other than that, everything was perfect! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great date idea or a group date situation! I wouldn't really recommend this as an event to bring small children to. Seeing as the atmosphere was calm and romantic, to have a baby or kids screaming or running around would have kind of ruined it for me. I would recommend the day cruise for kids. This trip was about two and a half hours so it may be too long for little ones. I highly highly highly recommend this to anyone looking for a GREAT time!

Dolly Boat was great; restaurant was lacking
Sun, Apr 6, 08   2:00 PM lsmathews Female 40-49 Local Group of Friends
We went on the 2:00 boat tour on a Saturday. The boat captain was very knowledgable and professional, and the Canyon was magnificent. We took a lot of pictures and really enjoyed the boat tour. We had planned on eating at the restaurant at the marina, but ended up leaving instead. When we got there, we noticed plenty of open seats available outside on the deck, where we asked to sit. We were first told there would be a 5 minute wait to allow the waitresses to "catch up" on their orders. After 15 minutes, we were then told it would be at least 30 minutes before they could seat us, due to "problems with equipment in the kitchen". We could clearly hear some of the waitresses complaining that their shift was over and they wanted to go home. Needless to say, we left. I would suggest the boat tour, it was really fun and interesting, but I would plan on eating in town or bring your own food.

Dolly Steam Boat Nature Tour

The weather was just perfect and the captain was very knowledgeable about the area. My husband and I enjoyed the lake and the history. This tour is really for adults, their were several children on the steamboat in fact a couple sat at our table with two children under the age of 3 yrs old and they could not have enjoyed this tour as they were so occupied trying to keep the kids busy...so why spend the money if you have to keep the kids entertained, get a sitter for this one and make it your day.

Great views of the canyon without having to hike
Sun, Apr 6, 08   12:00 PM cfbtrip Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Long and winding road to get there. Lots of great views along the way. The one-way bridges slow down the traffic, but aren't scary. April weather was clear and still cool. Think later in the summer the heat might make this miserable. Breakfast at the cafe was was good and service cordial, but agree that this operation certainly goes at its own slow pace. A lot of confusion that day. Most folks had reservations, but the window didn't open until right before the boat was getting ready to leave the dock. Up close view of the canyon at a slow pace. Yes, the captain's narrative and the music can be a little corny. A good choice for getting out of Phoenix and seeing some desert scenery.

Very well orginized, staff very friendly. Between the narration and the music and the canyon walls we felt at one with the canyon and the rich history of Arizona.

The scenery was fantastic; the weather was fantastic. The Captain's narration was very interesting and helpful while not being overbearing or droning on; the musical interludes were perfect! Can't wait to come back again when there are some water- falls active.

disappointed

I was disappointed because there was no signs indicting where this cruise was. It took 45 min to find the cruise and when we finally arrived at 12:00, the boat was just leaving the dock as anticipated. We were out the money we paid and very disappointed. I have since talked to many residence of the Phoenix area, none of which knew the exact location of the cruise. I think there should be better indicated signs down Apache Trail. I wish my experience would have been better.

Relaxing cruise

I think the music should have had a more fun theme. It was boring and made the trip seem boring. The narator was good, but people also like music.

We enjoyed a wonderful day! The history and geographic info Captain Tom shared was very interesting & the music was a nice complement. The views in every direction were fantastic. I would recommend this cruise to anyone...whether resident Arizonan or out of state import or visitor. It makes for an outstanding day trip!

Watch out for wedding party on board
Sat, Apr 5, 08   5:30 PM ColleenBahr Female 40-49 Local Family Without Children
I have previously enjoyed the dinner cruise and thought it would be perfect for our out of town company to enjoy. Even though I booked well in advance hoping for the upper deck of the boat, we were greatly disappointed to find out there was a wedding reception on board. The party had secured most of the upper deck which left us all down below and many other passengers besides ourselves were not happy. They also caused us to leave 15 minutes late. I would suggest that you call the Dolly office and confirm there is not a wedding party or large group on board. The food was good and the staff friendly, but unfortunately overall we were all disappointed.

Dolly worthwhile experience

This could have been a truly lovely experience. We were highly disappointed that we were not informed there would be a wedding party on the upper deck. (We would have cancelled eight reservations had we known.)They had not chartered the entire boat so they used the PA system. I didn't care to listen to their toasts, etc. Some of their party was late in arriving and the boat waited for them. I thought that highly unfair as we missed out on some daylight exploring. The crew was excellent and the food was phenomenal! This was our second trip on the Dolly and I was anticipating it being as good as the first one. It didn't live up to my expectations. But I was miffed by the twenty minute delay in starting the trip.

Nice trip and relaxing
Sat, Apr 5, 08   12:00 PM jmfausey Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Boat trip was well worth the price. Seen the long horn sheep but no other wildlife. Enjoyed the tour and the tips from the captain. Only complaint was that it seems such a shame to allow speedboats and jet skis on such a historical site-kind of ruins the ambieance. Also, the water was really dirty from all the boats, oil and such debris. We are from Michigan and are used to seeing clear water here. Otherwise, was a very nice trip.
