My huband and I thought it would be fun to do this with our 5 kids ages 17-3 years old. They all loved it. You get to see really cool and neat things there. Also while spending time with you family. I would recommend it for all ages and familie.

This was our second time on the Dolly, and again it was an enjoyable experience. It is a great way to see the beauty that Arizona holds. A great way to spend a hour or two.

Wonderful Experience

My new husband and I decided to take this dinner cruise on the dolly steamboat as part of our honeymoon weekend. We had a fantastic time. The food was EXCELLENT. The crew members were very friendly and the captain did a wonderful job narrating the scenery and different noteworthy features of the lake and surrounding canyon. We even spotted some big horned sheep. I would definitely recommend this cruise to anyone who likes good food and a good time.

We enjoyed the cruise very much. The mountains and the water were just stunning and we enjoyed our informative captain's insight very much. It was an easy drive from where we were staying in Phoenix and absolutely worth the drive.

Great for locals and tourists

We took my visiting parents and two young kids on this nature cruise. My parents (60's) enjoyed it very much as did my school-aged son (esp because we saw lots of big-horned sheep.) However, if we hadn't seen any wildlife, I think he would have been bored. I would recommend it for ages 10+ (and definitely leave active toddlers, like my own, at home!!) We would definitely return with other vistors (and our local family as well.) We did purchase the tickets in advance and so were allowed to get boarding passes before walk-ons (and therefore, on the boat first to get our preference of seating.) But for a Saturday, 2PM cruise, it didn't seem very busy (there were many walk-ons.)

Wonderful afternoon cruise on the Dolly. Saw some beautiful canyon scenery along with some mountain sheep. The scenic drive to the boat was worth it in and of itself, recommend going early enough to enjoy the scenery of the Apache Trail, it's gorgeous.

Nice cruise. Great length. Entertaining conversation. Plently of room. Good music. Great place to bring first time visitors to Arizona and the valley.

Fantastic 5 yr anniversary evening under the stars
Sat, Nov 22, 08   5:00 PM tmongolia Female 30-39 Local Unspecified
It was our 5 year anniversary and I wanted to do something out of the ordinary with my husband, so my sister suggested this cruise. We were not disappointed. It was a lot of fun with just the right amount of romance, ambience and food. You could keep to yourself or chat with the other guests. My husband said he would even recommend it and he had a great time. How can you beat floating along under the stars with the cool breeze on your skin surrounded by friends or family? I would love to do this again sometime and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Relaxing and Informative

This sternwheeler steamboat cruise takes you into the back country of Tonto National Forest. Captain Tom makes plenty of stops, and explains geological, biological, historical and amusing features of Canyon Lake. For instance, along the way, we saw Bach and his organ, bat caves, a mammoth and two native women guarding Canyon Lake. Captain Tom had a story for them all. (In fact, thanks to this great cruise, we found ourselves seeing characters and shapes in other landforms we encountered while touring Arizona.) The tour was also interactive and informative; Captain Tom had us ask Bach to play his organ, and asked us questions about what we might be seeing. He took genuine interest in his passengers and related personal stories with us where conversation allowed. Perhaps my favorite feature of Canyon Lake was the wall of geodes and petrified trees, seen end-on, near the turn-around point of the cruise. We took the tour in November on a calm day. The boat was clean and, on our cruise, comfortably uncrowded. Compared to other attractions we visited, the cruise was relaxing. We had a fun time and took the opportunity of sitting-while-touring to really see the sights and learn the stories. We took plenty of photos which will complement the memories we made.

me and my wife were celebrating 4 yrs married. it was a beautiful night, we really enjoyed everything. The crew was friendly and not too intrusive, the captains narrative was enjoyable, humorous, and informative. We will definitely do it again. Make sure you bring cash to tip the staff, i only had credit cards on me at the time.

First Time to Canyon Lake
Wed, Oct 22, 08   12:00 PM robanderson Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Excellent cruise that I would highly recommend. This was our first time to the Phoenix area and we took this cruise based on a recommendation from a travel website. We have 2 children ages 6 and 10 who absolutley loved the cruise. Captain Tom was fantastic as he narrated our tour and pointed out all sorts of unique and intereseting things while on the cruise. The rest of the crew were professional and very family friendly. For any parents with children looking for something family friendly to do we would recommend this activity, followed by a visit to Tortilla Flats.

Think the day cruise/trip would be better.

We only had a very short amount of time to enjoy the beautiful views of the lake before we ran out of daylight. We were one of the last tables to be dismissed from our table to get our dinner, they were out of all three salad dressings and also very low on corn so we were given very little. The attitude of the staff serving the dinner was very rude. When we complained to one of the crew members we were informed that the people that provide the meal are seperate from those that run the boat. The crew of the boat were very friendly and helpful and apologetic of those who were catering, but for the amount of money we paid to be treated that way by the catering staff and for them to run out of food/condiments is unaceptable. This is the reason why I would recommend the day trip, save you money and enjoy a meal at a restaurant on your way back to AJ. The staff of the Dolly took our name and number and said the captain would have the owners of the boat call us to get info about our poor comments on the catering staff....we were never contacted. Never the less the scenery is very beautiful, and we did meet a lovely mother and daughter form the Northeast.
