The theatre has been the original New York producer of many hit shows, including Lotto; Inacent Black And The Five Brothers, One Monkey Don't Stop No Show, and the musical, Over Forty.

The theatre has also nurtured the careers of many talented professionals, including the likes of Oscar-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson.

Critically acclaimed by Daily News, Our Time Press, GO Brooklyn, and The Amsterdam News, the theater has been described as "...both a neighborhood jewel and one of the nation's premier black playhouses."

Activity Description
Our current production The Desire, written and directed by actor and Award- Winning independent filmmaker, Jackie Alexander, is a hilarious and heartbreaking comedy drama for teens and up!

The story features a successful attorney whose perfect world is capsized when his cousin, a Hurricane Katrina survivor, seeks refuge at his East Hampton beach house; bringing with him nothing but the clothes on his back, and secrets from the past.

The Desire is premiering worldwide at the Billie Holiday Theatre, so you'll be the first to see the newest work of the acclaimed director. Jackie Alexander's previous works include many off-broadway productions, screenplays, recordings, novels, and films, all of which have won numerous awards and have received much critical and social acclaim.

This compelling drama will take place in the elegant 200-seat Billie Holiday Theatre, named after the legendary singer Billie Holiday, which has served as the training ground of notable, aspiring theater professionals.

Described as a theatre with a "soul and a mission," this intimate performance space has produced special programs that address social issues of concern and interest to the African-American and Caribbean-American communities.
