Description

The Billie Holiday Theatre's season of incredible world premieres by Jackie Alexander continues with THE RIGHT REV. DUPREE IN EXILE.  Previews begin April 29th and the show runs through June 26, 2011.

A lifelong man of faith, Reverend Charles Dupree is being pressured to give up the church he built as he fights a crippling terminal illness.  During a self-imposed exile to his lake house in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, he and his devoted wife Miriam are briefly reunited with their sons after years of estrangement: Kenny and Brendan. Kenny is a professional basketball player and Brendan is home to introduce his fiancée Olu, a practicing Muslim whose engagement to Brendan, a Christian, has caused her to be disowned from her own father.  As each of them is forced to deal with the escalating decline in Dupree’s health, they gain strength in their ability to face their own challenges.

THE RIGHT REV. DUPREE IN EXILE will take place in the elegant 200-seat Billie Holiday Theatre, named after the legendary singer Billie Holiday. The theater has served as the training ground of notable, aspiring theater professionals.

Described as a theater with a "soul and a mission", this intimate performance space has produced special programs that address social issues of concern and interest to the African-American and Caribbean-American communities.
