My friend and I have been telling everyone about the Brooklyn Pizza Tour. It was the PERFECT thing to do on a cold, wintery day because you spend part of the time on the very comfy and cozy luxury coach interspersed with stops to eat and sightsee. I liked the Grimaldi's pizza more than any pizza I've ever tried and I really enjoyed seeing Coney Island too. Worth every penny and I would highly recommend it!

I also speak for the other 5 people in our party when I say this was best best tour we have ever been on. It was the highlight of our vacation and I recommend this tour to anyone visiting NYC. Tony is a wonderful tour-guide and his local knowledge is unsupassable. What a great guy!! He is witty and fun and his descriptions of local attractions and little anecdotes make for a wonderful day. The pizza restaurants have the most authentic and best tasting pizza we have ever had. Of course, you could go by yourself to exerience the pizza, but it is Tony the man who makes this adventure what it is. We want to wish him the very best of luck with the new and exciting tours he has lined up. We will certainly recommend Tony and his tour company to anyone we know who will travel to New York in the future and plan to revisit the Tony Experience next time we come to the Big Apple. |

Our group consisted of 4 sisters and 2 sisters-in-law. Two of us lived in NYC about 15 years ago. All of the sisters and sisters-in-law have been coming up to NYC the same weekend every year for over 15 years. We always look for something new to do each year. This year we decided to try the Slice of Brooklyn tour after one sister saw it on the Today Show. It is every bit and more than the reviews incdicate. Tony makes the tour with his personal account of Brooklyn, having grown up there. Not only is it a great historical tour, but the pizza is out of this world. As good as it gets.
Highly recommended - even for those who live or have lived in NY - a ton o' fun!!! |

My husband and I highly recommend this tour as it is different, interesting and so well done. Tony is passionate about his "Brooklyn" and it shows. He loves what he does!!
It's a great way to see a borough you probably wouldn't make an effort to see on your own. The history, movie scenes, and celebrety list add colour, while the Pizza adds the flavour!!

I'm from CT, currently living in GA and my Mom is a snowbird (CT & FL). Neither of us bother to eat pizza down South - it just doesn't compare to the Northeast. She saw an article in her FL paper the same day I saw the Today Show spot, so we decided to go on the tour while we were in CT for Thanksgiving. I had been to Brooklyn once (in the early 80's), and she had never been, so it was nice to abandon our CT ideas of what Brooklyn is like. It was an excellent day. The pizza was great and Tony provided lots of history and interesting information about the area. |

I love New York and have been on many, many tours. This one is the best! Tony, the tour leader, is knowledgeable and humorous. Because he has lived in Brooklyn his entire life, he provides insights that only locals can. And the pizza---WOW!
I highly recommend A Slice of Brooklyn. It is great!! |

We were met by "Tony," the sole tour guide and owner of the business. Tony is Italian American and comes complete with a slicked back crew cut, Brooklyn accent, and phrases like "Fuhgettaboudit" and "How YOU doin?" He was instantly likable and made everyone feel comfortable on his tour bus which held approximately 2 dozen people. After boarding the bus, we headed across the Manhattan Bridge for our first stop... a neighborhood called "DUMBO," an acronym for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass." We got off the bus and walked around a little public park. The views of the Manhattan Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, and cityscape off in the distance were breath taking. We learned about the neighborhood's history and saw a clip from "Scent of a Woman" where the blind character (played by Al Pacino) drives a fancy red sports car through the busy streets of NYC. It was neat that the tour bus had the capability to play these video clips, because we came to learn quickly that Brooklyn is a prime location for filming movies. After boarding the bus, our next stop was a pier just under the Brooklyn Bridge. Along the way there, we learned about some of the songs written about the borough and about the bridge itself and saw more movie clips. After more picture taking opportunities, we walked up the street to our first pizza stop... a place called Grimaldi's Pizzeria. We all filed into the small pizzeria and proceeded to scarf down the two slices of pizza per person that were delegated to us. The pizza was rather crispy and thin, but I liked the flavor and simpleness of this "margarita style." It literally contained only chunks of buffalo mozzarella, red pizza sauce, and a few sprigs of basil. Back on the bus, we got more of a driving tour for a while and saw such locations as the Army post where Elvis was first processed into the Army and such neighborhoods as Red Hook, Bayridge, and Dyker Heights... all with their own unique stories, personalities, movie clips, and architecture. We then turned a corner and headed down a street that was made famous by the opening scenes of the movie "Saturday Night Fever," starring John Travolta. It was now time for our pizza stop #2. Our second stop for pizza was at a place called L&B Spumoni Gardens. They are known for serving traditional Sicilian style pizza which has a crisp outer edge and gooey middle and features the unorthodox layering of sauce over mozzarella. This pizza was thicker, wetter, and a lot more filling. From here, we headed to the Coney Island part of the tour where we saw the very first Nathan's Hot Dog Stand and actually got off the bus to walk along the famous boardwalk. We got to see all of the famous rides and attractions of Coney Island like the Ferris Wheel, Cyclone, and AstroTower. On our ride back into Manhattan, we watched a slide show of all the famous actors, politicians, and athletes that are from Brooklyn. It was very surprising to see them all! What a fun day! I recommend this tour highly! |
