I've been to a lot of concerts in New York City, and this one was one of the best I've ever seen! The Brooklyn Museum is a great live music venue in NYC, and the Brooklyn Queens Conservatory did a wonderful job hosting the concert and everything was well organized. Taj Mahal was extremely charming and charismatic, and I saw many people dancing in their seats. Great combination of blues, soul, reggae, and I especially loved the banjo! The full band was impressive and the acoustics of the concert hall astounding. For the price, I'd say any BQCM concert is definitely one of the best things to do in NYC, Brooklyn, or Queens. The ticketing process with Zerve was also really easy and convenient and saved me a lot of hassle - they even let different members of my group come in separately! I would not hesitate to attend any concert of theirs again, and look forward to the next one.

As a 23 year old that is newly living in New York, I thought this event was wonderful. I consider myself as having a well rounded taste in music, and this event opened me up more to the Blues. Having never really heard of Taj Mahal, this event was a great introduction to blues, and especially his type of hybrid blues.

Last Saturday's Taj Mahal benefit (2/9) concert for the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory at the Brooklyn Museum of Art was a joy from start to finish. Taj did about fifteen minutes solo w/various stringed instruments, then he brought out members of his old horn section from the early 70's including the Conservatory's own Earl McIntyre and the great Howard Johnson. That's when the fireworks began! Five multi-instrumentalists provided many brass voicings complementing Taj's material over the decades and the grand culmination saw four tubas at once! My 17 year old son had his first experience with Taj Mahal and he could only say, "Now that's a bluesman!"

My wife and I haven't seen Taj Mahal perform with the 4 tuba horn section since the 70's. I painted the inside of my home in 1971 listening to "A Little Soulful Tune" and the entire album while 3 NFL games were on. The games wore me out but Taj kept me going. We loved the fact that he opened with "Goin Fishin". He was at his best.

| As my wife and I waited at the elevator, Taj Mahal was escorted in and we and others rode upwith this entourage, spoke briefly to him and shook hands. He was very relaxed , affable, and "comfortable". This naturalness carried over to the stage, where Taj Mahal shared personal experiences as he soloed with banjo, guitar and harmonica.
Then the band, with its great brass instrumentalists, doubling on trombone, trumpet, baritone saxophone and then as 4 tuba players, ( Howard Johnson, Ernie McIntire et al) provided a magnificent match for Mr. Mahal and a lady vocalist as they charmed the audience in understanding that this was a special evening; probably greater than the 1971 Filmore event in San Francisco. Note: It was obvious from the body movement and facial gestures that both the band and Taj Mahal very much enjoyed this engagement.

Taj Mahal and his band really gave us a great time. We enjoyed our seats on the balcony...great view, good acoustics! Thanks for a wonderful evening! I traveled from Connecticut. It was worth the hassle of train and subway.
