Great concert in a charming, friendly space
Sat, Apr 26, 08   8:00 PM helyee Unspecified 40-49 Local Couple on a Date
The concert was fantastic -- great quality of musicianship, nice pacing of the program, pleasant sound in the little hall. The crowd was wonderfully diverse in age group and ethnicity. I love this city, and this little hall is a great find. The jazz programming is a welcome alternative to noisy clubs. I like to hear jazz in a concert setting as it places more emphasis on the music making!

delightful, wonderful, stimulating

David Amram is a Brooklyn icon and a national treasure. In addition to the wonderful music, terrific band, and the fine singing by Ms. Manning and chorus, his tales of musical and cultural history were a pleasure to hear. His voice and speech rhythms are jazz-like in and of themselves. Any opportunity to attend one of his events should be jumped at.

There's really not much to say past that. The BQCM is a great little venue that invites great musicians. Last Saturday's performance was professional, energetic, and intimate.

BCM hosts outstanding musicians

I've attended 2 events at BCM - Tito Puente, since deceased, and Sonny Fortune, still going strong. Both were exceptionally good performances.

Great music in a parlor-what more can you say?

The Brooklyn Conservatory is just a great place to hear great music. This particular night Sonny Fortune was playing with his quartet. He is a beautiful player and his quartet was tight. The Brooklyn Conservatory is one of the few places where you can go hear great improvisation in a small room setting. The place is light and the people working there are polite and also love the music making for a relaxed comfortable feeling. During the intermission and after the concert you can even go talk to the musicians and learn more about their approach to music or their politics if you so desire. Definitely worth going to.

the virtuoso sonny fortune
Sat, Apr 4  8:00 PM keithbrooks Male 60-69 Local Individual
there's major leaguers and then there's all stars. sonny fortune is an all-star, a virtuoso on alto and soprano sax, and flute. i first saw fortune in person about two years ago, and have been looking for another opportunity to do so. he exceeded my expectations. fortune played two sets, doing coltrane, ellington, and original tunes, backed by a steady rhythm section, with michael cochrane on piano, ira coleman on bass and steve johns on drums. seeing him at the brooklyn conservatory of music concert space was like having him in your living room (albeit a very big one). the space is great and the price relatively reasonable. don't miss sonny fortune if you get the chance, and check out the brooklyn conservatory as a great place to hear music.
