| John Blake and his quartet were wonderful. It was a very enjoyable evening and the tickets were reasonable given the high quality of the program. My husband and I would go back to other concerts offered at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. | ||||||

| Last Saturday's Taj Mahal benefit (2/9) concert for the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory at the Brooklyn Museum of Art was a joy from start to finish. Taj did about fifteen minutes solo w/various stringed instruments, then he brought out members of his old horn section from the early 70's including the Conservatory's own Earl McIntyre and the great Howard Johnson. That's when the fireworks began! Five multi-instrumentalists provided many brass voicings complementing Taj's material over the decades and the grand culmination saw four tubas at once! My 17 year old son had his first experience with Taj Mahal and he could only say, "Now that's a bluesman!" | ||||||

| There's really not much to say past that. The BQCM is a great little venue that invites great musicians. Last Saturday's performance was professional, energetic, and intimate. | ||||||

the virtuoso sonny fortune

| there's major leaguers and then there's all stars. sonny fortune is an all-star, a virtuoso on alto and soprano sax, and flute. i first saw fortune in person about two years ago, and have been looking for another opportunity to do so. he exceeded my expectations. fortune played two sets, doing coltrane, ellington, and original tunes, backed by a steady rhythm section, with michael cochrane on piano, ira coleman on bass and steve johns on drums. seeing him at the brooklyn conservatory of music concert space was like having him in your living room (albeit a very big one). the space is great and the price relatively reasonable. don't miss sonny fortune if you get the chance, and check out the brooklyn conservatory as a great place to hear music. | ||||||

| The musicians were top quality, wonderful, skilled and most of all they truly enjoyed playing for their audience. I not only had a good time listening and watching them but it was a lot like the myriad of performances we used to have in NYC when I was younger. Thank you. | ||||||
