We loved this tour!!!

This tour was so much fun! Our tour guide, Memphis Jones, kept the music rolling and provided us with lots of interesting stories about Memphis and it's famous musicians. We got a great overview of the city and were able to deside what we wanted to see more in depth. I would highly recommend this tour as the first stop on your itenerary.

The tour turned out way different than I expected. I thought we would be carted to Sun studio, STAX studio and some other places where we would take each of those paid tours. Instead, Memphis Jones gave sang some of the songs that were milestones of the Memphis contribution to rock and R&B. And he told us and showed us where those songs fit in. It was entertaining, insightful and just plain fun. A year or so ago, I bought a Rhino collection just to get "Rocket 88". It cost more than the Mojo tour, and all I got was the song. Our tour guide let us know why the song was important. Being "damn Yankees", the bus was too hot for our taste. But we certainly did love the tour.

Mojo Fun Tour

The Mojo bus tour was very nice with a great background history of the music scene and the citizens that made the city what it is today The Tour host was full of interesting titbits of history and Elvis ( which was the reason that I was in Memphis) and sung his way through the music history of Memphis .... The stop at Sun Records appeared to be a promotional commercial stop rather than a historic visit to the Studio and it woulkd have been nice to have another stop and photo session at another suitable venue. It was just passable as a organised tour and we were lucky that the bus was not over crowded.... the bus itself was rather old and uncomfortable over the bumps

Tons of fun, music, and history. In between all the singing and laughing, we learned so much about Memphis. Well worth the ticket price.

The tour was really enjoyable for us and (shockingly) our kids. Memphis really knows his stuff, but gives the tour in a way that's extremely entertaining, so you don't feel like you're being lectured. We went through a good chunk of the city (from what I know) and got some unusual photo ops. The only recommendation I have is if you stop at Staxx, buy something...we didn't know til after we got back on the bus that part of the proceeds go towards a good cause.

Memphis Jones is a great tour guide and an incredible musician. He delivered fascinating information about Memphis with humor and great insight. I just wish the tour had been longer. We had 8 and 9 year old kids with us who had a blast.

We can't speak highly enough of the BackBeat tour we did during our visit to Memphis. We had the most fun, hardly noticed that 90 minutes had passed, and aside from the fact that we had physically got off the bus to visit Sun studios, one could be forgiven for not noticing that we had left Beale St. Our guide, Memphis Jones, rocks - his knowledge was superb, his singing swiftly contagious and his personality simply wonderful. We have already told most of our friends about this tour, and will continue to do so. Awesome - don't change.

Mud Island - $10/person Graceland VIP Tour - $35/person Memphis Mojo Tour - Priceless!! Old or young, the Mojo Tour is worth the price of admission. Let loose and sing along to great music and learn a bunch about a cool city. I was skeptical before booking the tour, but our experience was on par with the other great reviews for these guys!

Soul Stirrling! Uplifting! A Joy-Filled Ride!

The highlight of my Memphis vacation. Memphis Jones jampacked 150 years of Memphis music history into a jammin' 90 minute bus ride from Rock and Roll Heaven! The sacred sites of song were lovingly balanced by the soul stirring tunes, as we all sang along and kept the beat with instruments provided. If music is a passion, then this is the event to experience. We couldn't stop talking about it and told our fellow travelers, hotel guests AND the staff and locals how much fun we had on the funky bus from Backstreet Tours. Hallelujah! We just loved it so! Thanks so much and we are coming back next year for more.....!!

Would not recommmend this tour

Unless one is interested in the background of Memphis music, I would not recommend this tour. The whole tour was about Memphis music and mostly about the one man who gave the tour (his experience in Memphis music) and very little of the downtown sites. The stop at Sun Studio was only 10 mins., and just a quick drive-by of the Civil Rights Museum. Another competing tour group in town gives much more information and provides stops at Graceland, Civil Rights Museum, Beale Street, etc. Plus, they'll pick you up at your hotel and take you back! Skip this; take the other!
