Backbeat Tours

Was an awesome tour...learnt and seen lots that we had no idea of before!! The music/tour guide was great...loved the tunes and singing...my daughter enjoyed playing the tamborine!! The only complaint that I have is that they need air conditioning on the bus...it was a bit uncomfortable. Would totally recommend this tour to anyone that I know is going to see the real Memphis!!

As two ladies of a certain age (admitting to over 60!!) we were entertained throughout the trip with the music and anecdotes of our guide. We thoroughly enjoyed participating in the singsong and learnt a lot about Memphis' music connections apart from Elvis.

A seriously brilliant "musical" tour of Memphis. Naturally you won't get all the detail in two hours, but as a primer for the Music of Memphis this takes some beating. And it will take you to spots that you might not otherwise know about/visit (especially if you are in Memphis without a car).

We didn't know what to expect but a tour of the sites with some good Memphis music sounds and an informed guide was a novel and enjoyable experience. The Guide/ Musician was very talented and had an excellent rapport with both the Driver and fellow passengers. The route taken was equally inspired and gave us an indication of other places to visit. One slight criticism was that we would have preferred slightly more information and slightly less music to get a better feel for the City but overall good value for money.

We took the tour with Memphis Jones and had the most wonderful time! He was knowledgeable, fun and enthusiastic - in fact everything we were looking for in a Tour Guide. We stopped at all the important sights and saw everything we wanted to see. Mr Jones has a fabulous voice and really communicated his enthusiasm for his subject and the city. I cannot recommend this tour enough and would take it again in a heartbeat (if only I did not live 4000 miles away!).

The highlight of the tour was Ernestine & Hazel's - the upstairs area is really spooky and totally looked the part.

I highly recommend this tour. It was lots of fun and very educational. It was one of the major highlights on our trip.

Very well researched tour. We had an amazing time. This is a really fun way to learn the history of a city. Remember to wear comfortable footwear.

We recommend this tour to everybody with an interest in Memphis music whether it be the Blues or Elvis and everything inbetween. Our guide for our trip was 'Memphis' Jones, a guitarist with a great passion for all the music from the city. The tour was extremely informative with stops at the Sun Studio and the rebuilt Stax record store. with live music throughout the two hour tour I can highly recommend this.

We read about this tour in a pile of tourist brochures left in our accomodation. It was a fun, entertaining and informative few hours hosted by "singing Brandon'. It took us past places we wouldnt have known about and we were able to revisit them after the tour. Highly recommend this tour as something very different and gives you a chance to show your musical skills too!

Morgan, who took us on our tour, made us made us feel like freinds who were out for a walk, she was an excellent guide. Starting with the panoramic view of the city from the hotel roof it gave a great sense of the place both geographically & historically. We learned a lot about the social history of the cotton industry, the civil war era, Beale Street & its music, as well as the troubles that lead to Mr King Jr coming to the city with such unfortunate results. It made you feel like you were there involved in these events, emotionally drawn in. We ended up watching the ducks come down to the fountain at Peabody's Hotel, lets hope they bring in a lot of customers because the staff had to spend ages drying the floors after them. Great way to spend a morning, thanks.

The musical element of this tour was great fun I was rattling my shaker & tapping my feet along with the rest of the bus! Until I came to Memphis & visited the Sun studios & toured round I didn't relise how much blues/soul music I'd heard before & really enjoyed. It is amazing how anyone could produce such great music with such limited resources compared with todays mixing desks, but they did. You can stand where Elvis stood & imagine you are close.

This was our third Backbeat tour over a four year period,each one has been fantastic. These are are really great value tours and from the time you get on the bus until you get off you are entertained & treated like welcome friends.We have had Memphis Jones twice now and he is great ,he certainly know all there is to know about Memphis & the music scene + more. This really is a great way to see parts of Memphis you wouldn`t get to see on you own, plus (its fun fun fun) So if you are off to Memphis (you lucky people) book this tour NOW !!!!

Would highly recommend - very informative and Gary (courier) was brilliant had a vast knowledge and was very entertaining. Cant say enough about how great it was. Thoroughly, Thoroughly enjoyed it and it was over too soon.
