Mixed Reaction to the Tour

Four of us took the Big Mojo Tour. Our "escort" could play the guitar well, but his voice left much to be desired. He continually made references to the gratuities he expected to receive for the tour: "$10 if you enjoyed yourselves and $ 20 if you learned something". It was repeated many times. Also, we thought we paid for a waste of time to take the first tour, return to Beale Street and wait for others to join us and then go out again. We honestly expected a full tour! We do not think we got our money's worth for this tour. The hostess at the point of origin was very friendly. We did have a tour of Memphis and a tour of Sun Studio. I do believe a different "entertainer/guide" could have made a difference. Our singer looked like he had just rolled out of bed.

Interesting, but no ghosts

Our guide was friendly and made the tour interesting and entertaining. Although the ghosts weren't cooperating that night, it was a good way to learn a little history of the town and see a few spots we wouldn't have seen on our own. We had heard that Memphis wasn't a very safe city, but I think taking this tour on our first night in town showed us that we could navigate around town safely.

An absolutely grand tour! The group joined in and we all had a good time. We learned a lot of little known fact as well as hitting all of the major ones.

This was a great tour of the musical roots of Memphis. Jason was our tour guide/entertainment. As we passed locations of interest - Where early performers lived and recorded - Elvis; BB King; etc, Jason wailed the related songs and played his guitar. He was good enough that I would pay to hear him sing in concert.

Very happy I was able to work the walking tour into my trip. Easy to sign up on line. The tour was personal and interesting. Our guide was knowledgeable, answered all questions, and I liked the pace. The day I went the group was small that was very pleasant..

Fun but not real factual

After going on a ghost tour in Key West, FL, which was the first I'd ever been on and EXCELLENT, I wanted to try this one too. (I had also done one in New Orleans, which was pretty good too) We all felt that it was a little bogus. We looked up some of the stories the guide had shared online and the facts were all wrong. The one we went on in Key West had a notebook with her showing newspaper accounts of the various stories she told us, which made it far more believeable, spooky and enjoyable. The guide was also very young acting and a little annoying, frankly. Sweet person, but just didn't AT ALL measure up to the Key West (or the New Orleans) ghost tour guides that I had encountered. Wouldn't highly recommend.

We loved this tour

My husband is a keyboard player, so I thought this would be a good tour for him. If you love music, and music is why you've come to Memphis, I highly recommend this tour. I would add that it is the ONLY tour I have ever signed up for, because in general we prefer to explore cities on our own. It was really alot of fun.

I booked this as a surprise for my wife and we both absolutely loved it. David, the musician, was talented, funny, and knowledgable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Memphis.

It was a fun way to see the highlights without getting on/off the bus. Entertainer was informative and music a good background. Felt a bit too many details on the black individuals in Memphis who were friendfs with our entertainer. Would recommend though and am considering a group in Spring 2013.

An Entertaining Way To Tour Memphis

My partner and myself on a visit to Memphis from the UK joined a small group for an extended Backbeat Tour of Memphis including Sun recording studios. We were made to feel welcome immediately by the lady at the ticket office and took our seats on the historic restored Backbeat bus with nice comfortable seats and were treated to an entertaining tour with our tour guide in good singing voice trying to get reserved British tourists to join in, (a difficult Job we don't do audience participation very well) but all in all an enjoyable tour with lots of information good entertainment with nice people. A tour of Memphis with a difference and recommended
