An Introduction to Memphis
Fri, Jun 24, 11   10:30 AM 77bethieb Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Our tour guide, Memphis Jones, brought the music and historical scenes of the City of Memphis alive and put them together for us. We recommend this tour for anyone who is visiting Memphis for the first time, or the 50th. This tour was as entertaining and fun as it was informative!

Memphis Jones was our singer/tour guide. He was excellant at both! He spoke with great pride, knowledge and enthusiasn of the musica history of Elvis, Johnny Cash, and many rhythm and blues singers who were a part of Memphis. He preformed songs the singers were noted for and that were popular in time period he was speaking of. PLUS he could sing!!!! Great tour! Great entertainment. April M. Granger Louisiana

We had a lot of fun and lots of Memphis history was shared! Tour guide was entertaining and friendly as was the bus driver! The tour was culturally diverse, informative and economical. Would recommend to anyone who wants to see the city and learn more about the history of Memphis.

probably my mistake - i thought this would be a tour of memphis, not just a musical review. i thought a number of opportunities were missed - we passed buildings of interest, neighborhoods - why not at least throw out some info about the city, it's founding (more than a mention of de soto), other pertinent facts on the way to sun records and such. the musician was fine but MY GOD WAS IT LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I MEAN IT WAS LOUD. AND ANNOYINGLY LOUD. i personally would not recommend this tour, but the other folks seemed to enjoy it.

My daughter and I liked your walking trip. We would have liked access to more of the buildings on our trip. Our tour guide was wonderful. Thank you, Virginia Corry

Experience the dark side of Memphis!

My family and I enjoyed the Dark Side of Memphis tour. It was only one hour (shorter than the 2 hr. ghost tour), which was exactly what we were looking for. The total walking distance is about 1 mile, but there are a lot of stops along the way, and you can grab a drink to go from Beale St. before you depart. Our tour guide was very friendly and enthusiastic, and seemed to have a genuine interest in the stories that she was sharing (she even mentioned doing her own research on the subject.) I wish we could have actually gone into the buildings that we discussed, but I cannot fault the tour group for that; these are privately owned buildings. The story about the journalist killed in her apartment building, which I hadn't heard of but I'm sure a lot of locals are aware of, was particularly creepy. Overall, if you are looking to spend an hour learning some of the "dark history" of Memphis, I would recommend this tour. Next time I will probably check out the ghost tour; that E&H is one creepy place upstairs!

The tour was great. You start off on Beale st., which may be the most musical and fun street in the country, and it only gets better from there. Our guide, Gary, gave us a historically musical tour along with the visual tour of Memphis. He has actually worked with some of the great musicians of Memphis and still s to performs on Beale st. He gave us all the inside stuff on various stars while pointing out where many of them grew up. I highly recommend this tour.

LOVED IT!!

I honestly didn't know what to expect. I mean, I knew we wouldn't be going into any of the buildings - so really, I had prepared myself to be disappointed in the tour. BOY, WAS I WRONG! Ok, yea, you don't go into any of the buildings (except Ernestine & Hazel's), but you get your money's worth with spooky stories and bits about the darker side of Memphis. We're all still talking about the tour and telling other people about the stories and researching some of the tales online. Morgan was our tour guide - and besides knowing her stuff - she was full of personality and humor. I have been recommending this tour to everyone.....and I plan to do some of the other ones next time I am in Memphis. Well done, Zerve/Backbeat Tours. Well done.

As two ladies of a certain age (admitting to over 60!!) we were entertained throughout the trip with the music and anecdotes of our guide. We thoroughly enjoyed participating in the singsong and learnt a lot about Memphis' music connections apart from Elvis.

This tour was so much fun: a lot of singing along and interesting facts. Memphis Jones, the tour guide, is terrific at what he does. The blues, soul and early rock music brings the group together and helps make the whole adventure more memorable. I would definitely recommend it, especially to those who are old enough to know the music and enjoy it.
