Awesome!

The backbeat tour was great. It drove us around the streets of Memphis and showed us places we would never have been able to find. Such as Johnny Cash's house, the old Guitar shop (now a Thai restaurant) that Elvis bought his guitars from. The tour guide was great, singing us songs and he was very informative.

What a Treat!!

We toured good places in Memphis. But the real treat was the guide who pieced it all together with his monologue and songs. He knew the history of the music of Memphis and told it in word and in song. I highly recommend this tour. He also was very friendly, likable and helpful.

The tour was very informative. The tour guide, Memphis Jones, was very enthusiastic, knew a great deal of information and sang great tunes. Whatever he is paid is not enough. It is a great way to learn about the city and Memphis Jones is a great ambassador.

Well worth the money for locals and non locals.

While I have only lived in the Memphis area for just less than a year, I would suggest this tour to those who have lived here all their lives. I had family in for the Christmas holiday and went looking for fun things to do with them and found the Backbeat tour. Our tour guide was very informative and kept things lively. When hearing that we would be part of the entertainment during the trip, I wasn't sure I would enjoy it, but the Backbeat gang really get you involved and it adds so much to the experience. There is a lot of history in Memphis that I don't think most of the locals know about. When I shared what all we saw on the tour and what we had heard with the people I work with, most of whom have lived here all their lives, the most common response I heard was, "Wow, I didn't know that." Well worth the money for anyone. My family said they really felt like they had seen Memphis. They talked about it the rest of their trip.

The Backbeat tour was really fun, I loved listening to live music as we went around the streets and Brendan was so knowledgable about the area and history of some of the musicians. Loved Memphis!

Overall this was a great, entertaining tour. However, my least favorite spot was one about an interior door. I would recommend this tour to others.

We were a bit skeptical at first but had a few locals tell us it was a must. They were right! Our tour guide was deeply imbedded into the local scene. His past experiences that he blended into the story of the history of Memphis and the blues was great. Not a scripted tour. He was a storyteller. If you are in Memphis do this! A great value too.

I took a friend visiting from Atlanta on the Mojo tour & we loved it! It was informative, thorough & most of all....FUN! The tour guide had not just a knowledge of Memphis music, but also a love for it. His passion for it came through in the tour. And he sang! And we got to shake along with shakers! FUN!

Great Tour- Bus needed Help

I had a great time and would definately recommend to anyone who wants to tour Memphis. Unfortunately we went on a very hot day when their regular bus was out for repair and the replacement bus had a water leak from the air conditioner. The owner apologized endlessly and you could tell he was genuine and mortified about the situation. Even w/ a rough start, we still had fun and the tour guide cracked a few jokes about the bumpy start. Next time, I want the bongos! One suggestion is to have multiple times for the tour- especially on weekends. Would have preferred something at 11am so the tour doesn't have to effect your whole day. Our time was 2:30PM.

Not Very Good

I have been on several ghost tours of different cities, and I have to say that this one was probably the worst. The guide was very friendly, but honestly, did not provide us with much. She told a couple of short stories, but wasn't able to really verify much of anything. She brought us by a couple of places, and although I expected that we probably wouldn't be going in anywhere, there were several places she would talk very briefly about and we would be on our way before we could even stop to take a look. There was one area that we stopped and she talked about many orbs being found. Now we know that most orbs are dust or bugs. The guide also talked about being terrified of ghosts and the only reason she was giving us the tour was because she knew she would have people with her. She talked a lot about herself, her husband, how she was an actress, etc. It actually got to the point that it was boring. The last place we went, the upstairs of a bar, she told us we should all buy a beer so the owner would possibly let us look upstairs. We did buy some beers, and were granted the opportunity to look upstairs, which was nice. Nothing there of course, but I didn't expect something to jump out at me. Oh yes, and at one point in the tour the guide brought us to an old train station. We all stood on the sidewalk as she told us the story of a dead janitor that whistles. She then told everyone to put the ears against the door to listen. What? Standing on the street, putting our ears against a door to see if we can hear a whistling ghost? Seemed very silly to me. We ended, not at where we began, but somewhere that us out-of-towners had no idea where we were. I found this odd, as most tours I've been on end where we began so we don't have to pay money for a bus/taxi/trolley, etc. We could have walked, but it was quite a ways away from where we started. So, she pointed us to the right trolley and we left. It was a bit entertaining at times, but mostly boring. I would skip this and save your ghost tour experience for the next time you're in Chicago.

Tour guide was great story teller, entertaining, enthusiastic. Made the tour enjoyable, even in 100 degree weather.
