Tickets must be purchased in advance. Ticket purchases can be made through this site or over the phone using Visa, Mastercard or AMEX. Cash is not accepted for ticket purchases.
Are tours given in bad weather?
Tours are held rain or shine. We do ask that you check the weather forecast and dress accordingly if inclement weather is predicted.
Can children participate in the tour?
Children may participate in the tour, however, parents, who know their children best, should assess whether a 3-hour walking food tour is appropriate for their own children. As a general guideline, we do not recommend this tour for children under 12 years of age.
How much food is served on the tour?
The tour includes 6 food tastings, which amount to enough for a satisfying lunch for most participants.
Are beverages included?
Water will be provided at a couple of the tasting locations, but there are no beverage-specific tastings on the tour. There will be an opportunity to purchase a non-alcholic beverage midway through, but guests should also feel free to bring their own bottle of water if they would like to have something to drink throughout the tour.
What if I have a dietary restriction or food allergy?
Please be sure to let us know if anyone in your party has a dietary restriction or food allergy when you purchase your tickets. With advance notice, we will work to accommodate your needs to the best of our, and our tasting locations' ability, but cannot guarantee substitutions for all tastings. We are unable to accommodate a Vegan diet.
Are there vegetarian options available on the tour?
We can provide a vegetarian option at most tasting locations with advance notice. Please be sure to mention your preference for vegetarian options when purchasing your ticket, as we will not be able to arrange for alternative options on the day of the tour.
Where does the tour begin and end?
The exact meeting location will be provided at time of ticket purchase. The end of the tour is about a 5-minute walk from the starting location.
Is parking available near the starting location of the tour?
Parking is available, but limited in the South End. We find using the MBTA or taking a cab to be easiest, but nearby parking options will be provided with the meeting location details once tickets have been purchased.
Are restrooms available during the tour?
Restrooms will be available at the beginning and end of the tour at the corresponding tasting locations.
How much walking is involved? What is the walking pace like?
The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and while we will be on our feet most of the time, we do sit at some of the tasting locations for a combined total of approximately 50 minutes. The tour is conducted at a moderate pace, covering less than 2 miles and stopping frequently at tasting locations and neighborhood sites.
Do we just walk around and sample food?
No! Our guests will learn about the wonderful rich history and cultural development of Boston's South End as well as find out about some of its famous sites and residents. The tour is fully narrated by your guide, who will discuss history, culture and architecture.
Are cameras allowed on the tour?
Yes - cameras are permitted and taking photos is highly encouraged.
At what point during my vacation is it best to take this tour?
We highly recommend you take this tour toward the beginning of your vacation so you have time to re-visit the neighborhood and your new favorite eateries! As for day of the week, any day is an excellent day for a food tour. Tours do sell out quickly, however, so please book your tour well in advance for the best chance of getting your preferred date.
I live in or around Boston - is this tour for me?
Absolutely! While you may be familiar with our route and some of the stops, you may have the opportunity to try new food items at the tasting locations and learn more about the establishments themselves. Additionally, we will be sharing fun facts about the neighborhood's history, architecture, and culture that you may not know and may find fascinating. Also, being a local, you have the unique opportunity to re-visit the eateries we stop at on the tour, as well other recommendations we point out, at your leisure! We also think this tour is an excellent activity with which to entertain out-of-town family and guests.
Can I make purchases during the tour?
Seeing as the tour has been coordinated in advance to ensure an on-time tour and fresh food tastings, it is critical for us to stay on schedule during the tour. We ask that you refrain from shopping during the tour, but will provide all the information necessary for you to return to your favorite spots once the tour is over.
Is the tour wheelchair and baby stroller accessible?
Yes, all the tasting locations on the tour are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. However, please be aware that this is a historic neighborhood and some of the sidewalks are old and made of brick and can be uneven in places.
Are tours only offered in English?
Yes, at this time we only offer tours in English.
Does the tour guide accept gratuities? Are they included in the ticket price?
Gratuities are not included in the ticket price. While not mandatory, if you enjoyed your tour experience, gratuities are graciously accepted and appreciated by the tour guides.
