Very Informative and Entertaining Ghost Tour

The atmosphere of the dimly lit Charleston streets provided the perfect setting for our tour. Our guide was a great storyteller! Her enthusiasm for the history of Charleston as well as the paranormal made the experience informative and entertaining. We highly recommend this tour!

After many a trip to beautiful Charleston, this was the first time I had ever taken a walking tour of any kind. I am now a committed believer that the only way to understand the historic city you are visiting is to take a walking tour led by a knowledgeable and dynamic tour guide. You can not go wrong with any of the Black Cat tours offered. The husband and wife team are a shear delight. Dressed in costume, the night tours by lantern light adds to the ambiance and feel of the old Holy City. Both are eloquent speakers and their knowledge of the area and history shine through. The Haunted Charleston tour was much more cerebral than just walking around being told what happened where. Rebel Sinclair makes you think. About life, death, unfulfilled dreams, unfinished business and love. Her passion for the history of the people and the city is genuine - this is not merely a night job. Likewise, husband Mark Jones offers a FREE Battery tour which we took the following morning. Again we were delighted with the unselfish sharing of his knowledge and fresh point of view as he explained in detail the architectural details of the city, the families who built them and the legacy left behind. We were so glad that we picked Black Cat tours over the countless other tour companies available. I hope you do the same. You will not be disappointed.

An interesting and entertaining tour of "Old Charleston's" wicked side. The history of Charleston that's unknown to anyone who has not taken this walking tour. Our guide was friendly, funny and full of facts.

This walking tour was true to the reputation that Charleston is historically a very interesting place. Our tour guide was the best at presenting all kinds of wonderful insights into the people, places & things involved with the South in general, and Charleston, in particular. It was a FUN tour that lived up to my expectations. I'd recommend it to anyone interested and definitely consider other tours offered/presented by BlackCat Tours with other family/friends in the future.

Carrie was very informative and kept it very interesting. It was a nice walk and we were able to see different areas of Charleston. I do recommend that you wear comfortable shoes, because alot of walking is involved. We enjoyed if for something different plus we got alot of history and of course some ghost stories. Carrie had obviously researched and knew what she was talking about. She was a very good story teller. I am glad that we chose this tour.

Rebel is a superb guide. She mixes facts of history with an actor's gift for characterization, enthusiasm, and drama. I'm sure she's done the tour a zillion times, but she made it as fresh as if it were her first. We would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys history and entertainment

Stories with a Kick
Wed, Apr 13, 11   8:00 PM srscher Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This tour provides an unusual look at Charleston's history told through stories of the less virtuous side of life. The guide makes this come alive from the founding of the city by desolute aristocrats through the residents' acceptance of almost every unusal act -- except one (which will remain untold here so as not to spoil the fun). We found it to be an enjoyable way to spend the evening.

A Walk Through History at Night

If Mark Jones weren't such a great guy and if the tour had not been so enjoyable, I wouldn't bother to comment. But Mark is a class act, a veritable raconteur, who could have talked into the wee hours of the morning with everyone on tour still eager to hear more of his thrilling stories. Not only is he knowledgeable of Charleston's present-day society, but also of the events in England and Ireland during Cromwell's reign in the early 17th century that in no small part forged the less-than-Puritanical character of the first European settlers of Charleston and, no doubt, their descendants. My brother enjoyed the tour no less than I did. In fact, the day after the tour he bought four books--two for himself and two for me─from the book store across the street from the Meeting House where the tour convened and ended. Two of the books Mark wrote himself and the other two by his wife and partner, Rebel Sinclair, a tour guide herself. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Charlestown with relish, mainly to take in Rebel's tour . . . and, Mark's too, a second time, to learn a few more things that are neither generally talked about in polite conversation nor widely known. I'm sure I'll learn more things about the city, some things that are likely unknown even by locals who are not wont to walk about the city at night, from haunt to haunt, always observing. If Mark were to state the reason that he knows so very much about Charleston's history is due to past life regression, I wouldn't be shocked, not in the least! A native of Charleston, he knows the city's history perhaps better than any other living soul!
