| If you have never kayaked but would like to, this adventure is for you. Before going out there is a containment area for practice. If you are afraid of being in deep water ... Chris does not take the tour to the ocean, and life preservers are standard equipment.
Our guide (Chris?) was pleasant and gave both kayaking and nature instruction / information. The experience was unhurried as we paddled through walking tree canopies and in the open water stopping at bird gatherings, for close up encounters with sea animals that Chris netted from the water and for rest breaks. Although remaining relatively close, we were not paddling in a pack which allowed for self explorations. Chris is also very open to taking pictures with your camera upon request. |

The morning kayak tour, while taking us out to the area we had explored at night, was still fresh for discovery. Again, the level of interpretation was great, all questions were answered and we really got a great amount of information.

We had a bit of wind and had never kayaked before our tour. James did a great job encouraging, redirecting and waiting for us. His description of the mangrove was informative, but the things he picked up from the water were what made it great! I won't spoil the surprise, but it was the best thing we did on vacation. Next visit, we'll do the night trip for sure.

While this tour is advertised as family friendly and beginner friendly, it was not the case. Except for a about a 3 minute intro at the beginning, no instruction was provided. When my children struggled at the beginning of the tour, the guide not even once paddled up to them to help or iinstruct, even when he was yelling at them that they were in the wrong area. He left all of the helping to my wife and I, who also had never been kayaking before. The trip itself is fun, not too challenging and beautiful. So it should be an ideal family experience except that the customer service was attrocious. My advice is that there are probably other operators who will give the same tour at the same price, but will give better service. Finally on an information note, the guide was knowledgeable, but very self righteous. As we chose to be on this tour because we were interested in the eco explanation, the guide would have been better advised not to treated the group with self rigtheous indignity. So, definately kayaking in this area is the thing to do, but go with a different operator, particularly if you are a family with children.

Informative, fun, and peaceful. Recommended except for the odd juxtaposition in learning about this unique eco system and hearing the naval jet planes screeching overhead. But of course that's certainly not the responsiblity of Blue Planet. It would also be great if they could find a less industrial launching point. My kids loved it and I was happy with the knowledge and passion of the tour guide.

We had a wonderful private tour as there were only the 2 of us booked at that time. Our guide James was very knowledgeable concerning the eco system and the environment of the Florida Keys. We experienced the wildlife and the natural beauty of the water. He was able to answer many of our questions and we would highly recommend taking this Kayak Tour

My sister who is in her late 40's, myself (late 30's), and my niece who Is 18 all went on this tour. My sister was very nervous, so I told her I'd share my canoe with her. I had never kayaked and had very little experience canoeing, but we did fine. I did most of the work, but it wasn't hard. The water was shallow In most places. We saw sharks, sting rays, jelly fish, conch, etc. We all enjoyed ourselves. The guide was patient and knowledgable. It was a fun experience.

We loved our Boca Chica trip with Chris! He was an excellent guide, putting us all at ease and sharing his love of the shoals with us. We wish the trip could have been longer! Next time we are in Key West we will definitely be back at Blue Planet Kayak for another day on the water to explore the mangroves and undersea life from a kayak.

Our guide's knowledge of the area was incredible. He truly seemed to enjoy telling us about the different sea life we encountered. I would highly recommend using Blue Planet for kayaking.
