Unique experience for any nature lovers

| One of the few eco-tours that delivers what is advertised. This is a physical activity which involves being on the open water and inside mangrove islands after dark, so may not be suitable for everyone (although I am sure that if necessary Chad would adjust the tour to the expectations and abilities of different groups). | ||||||

| My husband and I had such a great experience with James as our guide. He guided us through some really beautiful mangroves and out to a sandbar in the ocean. He anchored our kayaks and we got to get out and enjoy the water while James found lots of different animals for us-2 horseshoe crabs, an urchin, cowfish, and lots of conchs. James has the eagle eye to spot these things in the water! He would let us touch each animal and was very knowledgeable, as he is a Keys native. His passion and respect for this ecosystem was very apparent and made our trip that much more enjoyable. This was a great, non-mass touristy experience for us. We had a great time and would definitely kayak with Blue Planet again. | ||||||

Great sunset kayaking tour

| Tour guide was great and pickup service was nice. We started paddling about an hour before sundown, saw some interesting shellfish and such. After watching a amazing sunset, we paddled through some mangrove tunnels which were the highlight of the night. There are mangrove tree crabs and such in the tunnels, so be prepared for those, but nothing too creepy. On the way back we glided over some bio-luminescence, which was awesome. | ||||||

| We had friends recommend this tour to us based on the wildlife that they were able to see. Although we are not "professional kayakers", we have kayaked before (I can not say the same for others in our group) and the tour moved a bit slow for those who are familiar with the ins and outs of paddling. We were able to see some interesting things but not nearly the sea life that our friends were able to see when taking the tour in the spring of this year (time of year and overall temperature had a lot to do with this). Our guide was a little testy with some of the novice boaters and seemed a bit annoyed by others in our group who had in fact seen some of the wildlife that he pointed out. Overall, we had a nice time but being that the cost of the tour was $50 per person, I wish we would have rented kayaks and gone out solo. | ||||||

| My friend and I took the sunset and evening kayak tour last weekend, it was amazing. The sunset on the water was gorgeous. Kayaking around with the headlamps was very fun. Our guide Chad was a wealth of knowledge and was great about answering questions. | ||||||

| My small group paddled out and watched the sunset before kayaking into the mangroves. In the mangroves, we were introduced to a number of "critters.". We paddled out of the canopy to a beautiful full moon. This was a great trip! | ||||||

| We went on the sunset tour during a full moon and it was fantastic. Nice boats, friendly guide, met us on time as planned, took a nice tour, he explained many of the sea creatures that we saw and was very informative. We felt this was great value and a really nice evening out for a couple or single. | ||||||

| As first time kayakers this was a great activity for my entire family. The guide was knowledgeable and patient which was a big help when having children on the tour. We would go again next time we are in the Keys and would reccomend it for individuals and familys. | ||||||

| My children and I wanted to go kayaking, so given the heat of July days this was a fantastic option. My 14-year-old son was a bit concerned about the "romantic" aspect of this tour, but Blue Planet assured me it was only romantic for those who wanted it to be! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the Keys and the sea life -- he spotted a baby stingray and octopus, sea urchins, a sea cucumber and a large conch. The sunset was stunning, and it was really cool when we put the headlamps on for the return trip. I would highly recommend this excursion for someone who wants an out-of-the ordinary experience! | ||||||

| We thought that the Boca Chica Kayak Tour really represented the scene at Key West. We started from the back of a taxi repair depot at the edge of a commercial lobster fishing dock and set out into a fast moving channel. Our guide, Chris, was very easy going and guided our kayaks across the moving tide easily keeping sure that our boats did not go too shallow or get caught in the strong tide. Once in the bay we saw starfish, tarpon, sponges, crabs, urchin, and a few other fishes as well as several heron, egrit, osprey, all pointed out or temporarily captured by Chris for our handing pleasure. Oh, we saw four F-18 Hornets from the NAB nearby. Our guide also new much about local habitat, laws, science of the ecosystem, and the people living in the bay. We learned much about the area while we paddled through the mangroves or across the open channel. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves, and plan to take the evening tour our next trip down. | ||||||

| I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. There were only two other kayaks besides mine and the guide's, so it was essentially a private tour. James, our guide was very knowledgeable about the marine life we encountered...pointing out various kinds of sponges in the shallow waters as we left Stock Island and headed toward the mangroves. As we glided along the edge of the mangroves, James would stop and then go grasping among the roots with his hands to pull out various urchins, sea cucumbers, and other critters to pass around to us. All were safely returned to their watery habitat. We then entered the narrow channels through the mangroves with their leafy canopy completely covering us along the twists and turns. As we returned to base, James located a huge conch shell and a great star fish for us. This was my second trip with Blue Planet. A year ago I had taken their sunset/night kayak trip that comes complete with headlamps and a green neon strip on the guide's back. The eyes of the sea animals glow red at night! Blue Planet has great equipment and even those who were in a kayak for the first time got along well. And James reminded us to later come see him in a band in one of the clubs along Duval street! He handled his guitar as well as his paddle! Dave | ||||||

| My 16-year old daughter and I took the Sunset Kayak trip and it was awesome. Although it was a bit un-nerving being in a kayak in the dark while going through the mangroves, we had a great time seeing some things that you can't see on land - shrimp, lobster, rays, tarpon, needle fish, tree crabs, bioluminescent bacteria/algae, hermit crabs, conch, osprey and of course a unique perspective on a Keys sunset. Our guide, Chad, was great at finding things to show us and did a great job explaining various animal/environment facts. Thanks Chad for the wonderful experience! | ||||||
