Blue Planet Kayak Tours

We visited Key West early January 2011 ... intending to dive, but visibility was terrible and the water was on the "too cool" side. Instead opted to get out on kayaks. Blue Planet had good ratings on Trip Advisor, so we made a date with them. The guide, Chris, was both a very knowledgeable guide and a great story-teller as well. We had fun paddling through the mangroves learning about Key West nature, history and folk-lore. Saw birds and sea creatures we would have never spotted on land. Hard to believe this other world is just a short kayak trip away from the harbor. Our group was all adults, but kids could easily handle the trip. Blue Planet also scored really high with us for being on time at the meeting place and being accommodating when we needed to switch a booked morning tour to afternoon.

the expirence was wonderful and very informative. The guide was knowledgable and eager to inform the attendees of his knowledge. The event was a great day and one of the best events we did on our trip.

Our guide James was awesome, his expertise showed as he educated our group on marine life. It was all about giving us an excursion that we would remember. It was beautiful day out on the water.

Our guide was fun and helpful, teaching us to kayak, as it was our first time. I took my son, who is 10, and we kayaked together in a double kayak. The setting was, of course, beautiful! Our guide found starfish, sea urchins, and a sea cucumber we could see up close and touch. We also saw many jellyfish up close and saw many sea birds.

We really enjoyed the Kayak tour Paddling was easy to medium effort. Very educational. The size of the group was only eight people which made it great for the guide to keep us together to show us plants, fish, even found a conch. Nice adventure.

I would highly recommend going on the Boca Chica Kayak Tour. My friends and I had an awesome time and were able to see and touch all sorts of cool creatures! Our guide was very informative and fun! There are so many amazing things to see on this tour, definitely check it out!

I would highly recommend this trip to families with teenagers visiting Key West - always a difficult age group to please but the wildlife encounter- conch, sea cucumber etc fascinated them. One or 2 tips- don't wear a thin running vest like my son did- the mosquitoes bite you through the fabric! And a bit of constructive feedback for the guide- what he said was interesting, but even in a group of 4, he needs to wait til the last person is close up before he starts talking. Missed a lot of it. But overall, highly recommend this. It made our Key West trip memorable

We added the kayaking tour to our "Girls" Weekend adventure in Key West. In our group of 6, experience varied from 1st timers to experienced. Sarah, our guide, was terrific! Had great knowledge of the area, never boring and was very patient with our group when some needed a little extra guidence with the kayaks!! The tour became one of the highlights of our weekend trip! I recommend it to anyone going to the Keys! Great exercise (but not too much), great way to see some of the island by water and a beautiful sunset! Highly recommend!

Okay the bad part of the activity is as the boyfriend who is 6'8" and 265lbs the kayak was not comfortable for the time spent in it. A canoe is much more of a fit. That being said, we did enjoy the adventure. We love being immersed in Nature. The guide is knowledgeable and competent. We would recommend to anyone wanting a little adventure while visiting Key West.

One of the most fun things we've ever done. Our tour guide was so great and so knowledgable about all of the marine life. We can't belive how many different things we saw. The red mangroves were so amazing!...the sandbars were too cool. Thanks so much for offering the shuttle service too...it was so convenient, especially afterwards because we were tired from so much fun in the sun. I took the tour with my husband and 2 children (age 16 and 10). We didn't see nearly the animals we thought we would see; a few birds, a couple of manta rays, some fish but nothing like we thought. The tour was supposed to be 2.5 hours it ended up being around 3 hours, way too long for our kids. We were ready to head back after hour 1 because the tour guide talked and talked and talked and we didn't really have a chance to ask anything or even think about what he was saying because he would go on and on about another topic. It was in a word, exhausting. It was fun to go through the mangroves and to see the house boats but really this is not a tour for children or anyone under the age of 18. If you are athletic and you don't mind the hard work and you are lower to middle age this tour is for you. But if you have children go ahead and pass, there's so many more things that would benefit them on the island besides this tour.
