Fantastic way to see sealife & get some exercise

I really enjoyed going with a marine biologist as a guide since I would not have been able to spot the sea animals he showed us. I enjoyed going into the mangrove 'forests' to see the animals who live there.

did not see much marine life, a few birds. Not educational as far as the importance of conservation and preservation.

a good alternative activity when the weather was..

...too chilly for snorkeling. My husband and I are kayaking novices in pretty good shape who enjoy outdoor activities and nature watching- well, I do very much and he goes along to keep me company! The guide on this trip was low key, friendly, informative. We got to see/hold conchs, a starfish, sea cucumber, sea urchin, sea slug and had a long look at a beautiful great blue heron who posed nearby in a tree. We often brought up the rear in our mixed-age group of ten people, but had a great time and definitely would do it again & recommend it to everyone from ten to eighty. Bring along binoculars if you have them and wear water shoes or sandals and a jacket if it's chilly like it was in the Keys last week!

A wonderful experience for the nature lover

Blue Planet Kayak staff were great. We had a great guide, Chris, who kept us entertained for 2 1/2 hours non stop. He knew so much about the waters in Key West, the wildlife and the flora. The tour is well worth your while and the money. Naomi and George

A wonderful time

My wife and I are avid kayakers at our cottage in Manitoba, and thoroughly enjoyed our tour in February. The guide showed us an amazing variety of birds and vegetation up close, and fished out (and returned to the water unharmed) sea life such as starfish and spiny sea urchins for us to examine. The tour accommodated people who'd never kayaked before, yet we didn't feel held back. We explored the mangrove swamp through a narrow, shallow creek, and we had time on the open water of the Atlantic Ocean, where we had some opportunity to open up and paddle at our normal pace. There was a significant amount of time in which we all linked up, holding on to each other's kayaks, or just floated in calm water, while the guide pointed things out. BluePlanet was terrific value, and the kayaks themselves were first class, what we were used to at home. I was surprised that flotation devices weren't mandatory --- much of the route was very shallow, but there was also deep and open water. The rendezvous arrangements to meet at a mall in Key West and drive in convoy to the launch site, with no waiting for stragglers, felt a bit rigid, but we would likely have gotten lost trying to find it on our own. A map would have helped, had we lost the convoy at a traffic light. And booking through a ticket agency, with no refund for bad weather's cancelling the tour, only a future credit, left us feeling nervous. But overall a fabulous time, to go in minutes from the open ocean to the interior of the mangrove swamp, when our own lake back home was frozen solid. I would also recommend Bill's Big Pine Kayak Adventures, a similar tour we'd done two days before out of nearby Big Pine Key. The two tours were a nice balance --- with Bill's, my wife and I were alone with the guide on a very cool day, spending far more time in a different mangrove swamp about 20 miles away, and having a longer open water paddle on what was essentially the Gulf of Mexico. Experienced kayakers would be very happy to do both tours on the same trip to the Florida Keys.

Peaceful and Relaxing

Nice way to spend an evening away from Duval St. Amazing wildlife including many kinds of birds and sea life. A Ballyhoo actually jumped into our kayak while paddling after dark. That caused some excitement! I'd recommend single kayaks instead of the double which was tight manuvering in the mangroves and difficult to coordinate paddle strokes.

Beautiful location, tour mediocre

The location and equipment were perfect. The tour itself was a little slow and the guide was arrogant, answering questions with snide remarks and a condescending attitude...unnecessary. Wish we would have done more actual kayaking and less stopping and sitting, but the "eco" portion of the tour was informative and interesting. all in all, I would recommend the tour to people not looking for a vigorous kayak trip.

Our guide was very good at pointing out sea creatures we would have missed had we been on our own. This was the first time for me to kayak and it was very enjoyable. Would recommend this to everyone.

Fun & Educational Activity

Great experience, we were picked up at our hotel at the scheduled time, our driver was extremely friendly. Although we were told to bring supplies, water and sunscreen were offered to us, as well as a locker and waterproof bags for our belongings. Our guide, Chris, was patient with everyone's lack of skill and he knew a lot of interesting facts about the area. Although I hate anything to do with boats and water, I didn't feel like I was in danger at all during the excursion. The tour was well worth the cost (which was very reasonable).

Enjoyed the experience, but there were negatives

My husband and I were very excited about this excursion after reading all the reviews. We really enjoyed the kayaking aspect of it. The problem was that a front was in the process of coming in and the water was very choppy. We didn't see the wildlife that many others reported seeing, but understood that was out of the tour guide's hands. When he did find something to show us, Chad didn't wait for the entire group to catch up and see it. There was one woman on our tour who had absolutely no experience at all. Because of the tide and winds, she had an extremely tough time. At times, she was left very far behind the group and the guide did nothing to help her. I feel that before going out the guide should go over basic kayaking techniques once everyone is in their kayak and can practice the moves. It was a very interesting experience, especially when you put on the headlamps and move through the mangroves. We would do it again, hopefully in better weather conditions so we could see more wildlife.

I have only kayaked one other time. It was interesting & enjoyable. Definetly worth the time & effort. Not to strenuous although it was a little windy. Very educational. I liked the starfish the best. Wished I would have seen a dolphin.

This was an excellent tour of the water. The activity was carried out at a fairly relaxed pace and the guide was both informative and amusing. We learnt a lot about the local area and wildlife in a fairly short space of time. A very enjoyable morning

The marine life kayak tour was a very worthwhile experience. It was interesting and fun. The guide was very knowledgeable and personable. He searched for and found a variety of marine life that he scooped up carefully so we were able to look and touch. The kayaks were comfortable. The 2.5 hours stretched almost to 3 hours because none in our group wanted to leave! I would do this activity again next time I go to the Keys!

It was wonderful to kayak in the beautiful water and mangroves and learn about the sea life.
