Blue Planet Kayak Tours

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our two and a half hour kayak trip through various habitats near Key West with Blue Earth Kayak. We went on the Romantic Sunset, Starlight, and Full Moon Tour. James, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and able to describe interesting facts about the large variety of sea life we observed and some that we were able to touch and handle; as well has how they were affected by the tides and seasons. We paddled around a bird "island" where we saw pelicans, cormorants, egrets, and others in large groups. We donned our headlamps as it got dark and paddled through mangrove creeks to observe shrimp with florescent eyes, starfish, sea cucumber, sea urchin, and other species. We enjoyed the peaceful paddle back to the shore in the starlight and the stop to see the phosphorescence in the shallow sea grasses (James will have to explain what exactly that was). We highly recommend this trip to others that enjoy the outdoors, paddling, and learning about what lies beneath the beautiful waters surrounding Key West.

My husband, brother, sister-in-law and I all wanted to be together to see the bio-luminescence that we had heard about, but only thought we could see in Puerto Rico. We were so excited to learn that we could do this tour. Well we had the most knowledgeable, calm, guide "Chad" the owner of the touring company. He gave us great safety instructions on kayaking (my husband and I were novices) and showed us about the grasses of the Keys, the shrimp in the waters, several spiny lobsters, crabs, a starfish as we kayaked through the mangroves of the Keys. We saw the sunset and then when the sun went down we all donned headlamps..and retraced our steps to be able to see the bio-luminescence. We were all wowed!! This is a trip that I highly recommend to everyone who loves natures and is intellectually curious about our terrific marine life. The kayaking can be done by anyone at any level..

The kayak trip was a great way to see the Keys from a different perspective-- from under the mangroves! There would be no other way to access these points an see the natural features of the mangrove so up close. The water is so calm and peaceful. The ride is not strenuous at all and the guide is maybe a little too non-chalant, but shared some information about the area and wildlife.

We had a delightful afternoon with our guide,Katie. She showed us countless sea creatures we would never have noticed on our own and took us into passages in the mangroves we would never have tried to enter on our own. Unfortunately the person with whom we made the reservation greatly exaggerated the number of creatures we would see, so I was somewhat disappointed that I did not see rays or sharks or some of the other creatures mentioned. More honesty at the outset would have made my expectations more realistic. But Katie was great.

If you have a chance to do it, don't hesitate and reserve this tour!!

Four out of our group of six were first time kayakers. We were amazed at how easy and comfortable we were with it after just a few minutes. Chris was an excellent teacher and guide, full of interesting information about the ocean. The trip was very laid back and relaxed. We had no idea the water would be so shallow and clear. We saw lots of marine life and going through the mangroves was like going back in time. We didn't want it to end! One of the highlights of our trip was meeting Dan on his houseboat on our way back to the dock! We got a real feel for Keys and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Definitely include this on your TO DO List for Key West - even if that list is super short. Loved every minute of our tour and were truly fascinated by the sealife we not only saw but were able to touch. Great upper body workout too - bonus.

We have a very nice time on our kayak tour. It's nice paddle to the mangroves and back. Paddling through the mangroves was very relaxing!

My husband and I had such a great experience with James as our guide. He guided us through some really beautiful mangroves and out to a sandbar in the ocean. He anchored our kayaks and we got to get out and enjoy the water while James found lots of different animals for us-2 horseshoe crabs, an urchin, cowfish, and lots of conchs. James has the eagle eye to spot these things in the water! He would let us touch each animal and was very knowledgeable, as he is a Keys native. His passion and respect for this ecosystem was very apparent and made our trip that much more enjoyable. This was a great, non-mass touristy experience for us. We had a great time and would definitely kayak with Blue Planet again.

We spent 10 days in the keys and this was our favorite activity of the trip. Two kids, 5 and 8 and my husband all went kayaking with a great guide for 2 hours. She found all sorts of little sea creatures for them and we got to see the mangroves up close. Relaxing but still felt like we got some exercise along the way. They all wanted to go again the next morning.

This is a wonderful way to see and experience the "other" Key West. In addition to learning about the local environment and its inhabitants, you get a hands-on opportunity to see wildlife up close. As an added benefit, the exercise and fresh air is fabulous!

The guide is very friendly and knowledgeable. Learned much about the Keys and had a great time!

I enjoyed every minute of my adventure with our guide....and this is my second time I've completed this adventure with Blue Planet Kayak Tours. I plan on doing this again when I'm back in Key West. Keep up the Great Work!!!!

I loved this tour! We got to see so many different marine animals and creatures. The guide was extremely informative and patient with our lack of having kayaked before. If you are a beginner or an expert, this is a laid back, fun experience that everyone should have! I did not bring my children with me, but there were children in the group, and the guide did a great job with the kids. As long as children are old enough to help paddle the kayak, they can do this tour!

My wife and I took the morning Kayak trip through the Mangroves on October 19th. James was our guide and the trip was awesome. James is very knowledgeable and showed us all kinds of marine life and explained the eco system in great detail which was fascinating. We highly reccommend this trip for anyone.
