Absolutely amazing way to experience the true keys

My family of 5 - 2 adults and 3 children (9, 12, 13) just took the Kayak sunset/night tour. This is a MUST DO! I have been traveling to the keys since I was a child and wanted my own children to experience all the Keys have to offer - the ocean, plants, birds, etc. in a unique way. We have done everything in the keys from snorkel to parasail... but this was the best experience ever. Our guide was incredible. It was like having our own personal biologist. We saw the rookery- every kind of bird just feet away. Of course there is nothing like a keys sunset- but to be in your Kayak on the water- so beautiful. The best part was after the sun went down and we put our head lamps on... wow the lobsters, shrimp, beautiful fish, rays... amazing at night! The incredible sounds and the beauty of the mangroves in the dark.. just fabulous. There is so much to do in Key West.. but if you are looking for a unique, memorable experience, go out kayaking with Blue Planet! It's truly amazing!

The best part of my vacation

I have never been to the keys but my 16 yr old had. She talked about her experience kayaking the mangroves so I had to try. I love kayaking as it is. The other two that we were vacationing with was another 16 yr old and her mother. This mother had never kayaked before and was very leery about trying. I found this kayak tour online. Booked it and crossed my fingers. We went, kayaked for approx 2.5 hours and it was the best most beautiful 2.5 hours we experienced. Our guide was very informative and friendly. After our week vacation our group asked each other what part of our vacation we enjoyed the most and we 100% agreed kayaking was the best. I strongly recommend this adventure and would definitely do this again without a thought.

Just what we were hoping for!

I signed my family up for this tour on our last day in Key West. We had already kayaked a little during the week, and I was craving more. Happily, my family obliged. This was especially nice, because we could drive right to the site, get in our kayaks and go--no taking a bigger boat elsewhere in order to kayak. The mangroves are really special, and there is so much wildlife particular to them. There is always something to see, and our guide was patient and knowledgeable and willing to show us as much as possible, while being responsible toward this special environment. I would love to do a longer excursion the next time I'm in Key West.

A little too much fun for some!

We enjoyed the tour and our knowledgable guide. The tour was filled with seeing lots of birds and sealife. Eventhough we tried to stay focused on all the wonderful parts of the tour, it was overshadowed by a couple on the tour who thought it was a party cruise and decided to drink can after can of beer. As the tour went on they seemed less interested in the beauty around them, and became a distraction to the guide and the group. Unfortunately things ended on a very bad note, with the guide being very frustrated and angry with the intoxicated couple. The rest of us felt a bit awkward and tried to use it as a teaching moment for out teenage children on the tour. My advice to the company would be to not allow alcohol on the tour in the future. I am not against having a drink, but this behaviour did have a negative effect on the tour, and unfortunately became the focus of our conversation surrounding the tour afterward. I wish we had been able to really enjoy the event 100% because I am a biologist, and my son who is heading off to college is also very interested in marine biology. It could have been fabulous:(

Great tour of local area, mangroves and wildlife ! Just make sure someone does a head count so that all are accounted for throughout the tour, even the slow and weary stragglers!

Fab and informative way to spend an evening in KW

Booked this trip after reading reviews on Trip Advisor, and were so pleased we did! This has to be up there as one of the best things we have done on our travels, so unusual! We shared a double kayak, and were part of a group of around 10. Saw a fab sunset before donning our head torches and heading into the mangroves in the dark, which was a surreal experience. So peaceful. Katy spent lots of time looking for interesting things to share with the group, crabs etc and even a Conch. Would definatley recommend this trip!

I went with my mom in a tandem kayak and thoroughly enjoyed the sunset kayak tour. It was one of the highlights in our 9 day vacation. The guide was relaxed and approachable, and made the experience amazing. We started the trip in the evening and kayaked around bird island: a small mangrove island the pelicans/cormorants/and other birds have chosen to roost together, and we watched the sunset (which was beautiful), we then donned headlamps and kayaked into a mangrove tunnel. We got to see so many creatures, the guide lifted a sea slug out of the water that released purple ink, a queen conch, a horseshoe crab, a sea star, and a decorating crab. We saw a yellow stingray, mangrove crabs, and a lobster. Not to mention the 3 MANATEES that were in the marina of our launch site. It was a peaceful adventure and want to do it again through the same company next time I'm in Florida!

Thoroughly enjoyable tour for someone who had never kayaked. My traveling companion and I were looking for something out of the ordinary to do and I found this on line. It did not disappoint. Our guide Katie was very knowledgeable and showed us all sorts of sea creatures. Another participant in the group even spotted some dolphin in the channel as we crossed. Cruising slowly through the mangroves was tons of fun, and I had a moment of African Queen magic. Only negative was we did get fairly wet from the water running off the paddles, so be prepared. Do dress in layers, as is suggested. By the time we returned after 3 hours, between the wet legs, and the sea breeze, I was chilled. Do pick up a camera that can get wet from the drug store so you don't worry about soaking your good camera. I regret not bringing mine as it would have been fun to have photos to reminisce. That said, I am glad I did not put my good Canon around my neck. Well worth the time and great value for the money. One of the highlights of my trip to the Keys.

Fun and educational trip through the mangroves.

We were traveling with our two college-aged daughters and the weather was a little too cool for swimming/snorkeling so we opted for this 21/2 hour kayaking tour. It was an easy kayak over to nearby mangrove islands. Our guide, Katie, was very knowledgeable about the environment and its inhabitants and made every effort to find things to show us. We saw lots of conch, upside-down jellyfish, sea anemone, tree crab and a nurse shark. I would highly recommend this tour. We found it very enjoyable.

I took an evening venture and that turned out to be so cool! If you are going with someone, you have to option of going in a tandem kayak, which makes the paddling a little easier. Unfortunately, it was cloudy so we didn't get a pretty sunset and it did sprinkle in us, but no one minded. The water that we paddled was shallow (3-4" to 3' deep). We were provided with head lamps, so once it got dark we really got to see some awesome things like upside down jelly fish, sea snails, sea cucumbers, tree crabs, oysters that grow in the roots of mangrove trees, the fluorescent orange eyes of tiny shrimp, etc. This was my first time kayaking and I would definitely do this again!

I booked this trip to experience a little bit of the flora and fauna of the Keys and recieved MUCH more than I expected. It was amazing ! There were both skilled paddlers and beginners in our group (the beginners had been in a kayak a couple times) and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. Our guide James was incredibly knowledgable and had a knack for locating hidden sea life for us to examine and learn about...3 kinds of starfish one was HUGE, sea cucumbers, 3 varieties of conch, lobster, shrimp, a SEA TURTLE actually treaded water within our kayak circle for a minute or so (but don't expect this, as James stated that this was a first for him in 13 years of guiding tours--we were lucky ! ), even a stingray...I am forgetting many of our cool finds, I know, but there were probably 20 different sea creatures that we examined and touched. James knows so much about both the area and the inhabitants. He was kind and very patient with all of us. I highly recommend this trip for folks of ALL AGES....anyone interested in the world around them (and even for kids who say they aren't, because once there, I think they will LOVE it !). My sister was concerned about paddling in the dark with a headlamp initially, but after the trip she thanked me profusely for kind of leaning on her to attend....she says was not even a bit scared and enjoyed every minute of the trip ! My consensus? BOOK IT !
