Fun and educational trip through the mangroves.
Thu, Mar 7  1:10 PM Bertolet Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We were traveling with our two college-aged daughters and the weather was a little too cool for swimming/snorkeling so we opted for this 21/2 hour kayaking tour. It was an easy kayak over to nearby mangrove islands. Our guide, Katie, was very knowledgeable about the environment and its inhabitants and made every effort to find things to show us. We saw lots of conch, upside-down jellyfish, sea anemone, tree crab and a nurse shark. I would highly recommend this tour. We found it very enjoyable.

Very Cool!

I took an evening venture and that turned out to be so cool! If you are going with someone, you have to option of going in a tandem kayak, which makes the paddling a little easier. Unfortunately, it was cloudy so we didn't get a pretty sunset and it did sprinkle in us, but no one minded. The water that we paddled was shallow (3-4" to 3' deep). We were provided with head lamps, so once it got dark we really got to see some awesome things like upside down jelly fish, sea snails, sea cucumbers, tree crabs, oysters that grow in the roots of mangrove trees, the fluorescent orange eyes of tiny shrimp, etc. This was my first time kayaking and I would definitely do this again!

WONDERFUL TRIP !
Tue, Feb 26  5:30 PM kayo222 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
I booked this trip to experience a little bit of the flora and fauna of the Keys and recieved MUCH more than I expected. It was amazing ! There were both skilled paddlers and beginners in our group (the beginners had been in a kayak a couple times) and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. Our guide James was incredibly knowledgable and had a knack for locating hidden sea life for us to examine and learn about...3 kinds of starfish one was HUGE, sea cucumbers, 3 varieties of conch, lobster, shrimp, a SEA TURTLE actually treaded water within our kayak circle for a minute or so (but don't expect this, as James stated that this was a first for him in 13 years of guiding tours--we were lucky ! ), even a stingray...I am forgetting many of our cool finds, I know, but there were probably 20 different sea creatures that we examined and touched. James knows so much about both the area and the inhabitants. He was kind and very patient with all of us. I highly recommend this trip for folks of ALL AGES....anyone interested in the world around them (and even for kids who say they aren't, because once there, I think they will LOVE it !). My sister was concerned about paddling in the dark with a headlamp initially, but after the trip she thanked me profusely for kind of leaning on her to attend....she says was not even a bit scared and enjoyed every minute of the trip ! My consensus? BOOK IT !

Fun Trip - For the semi adventurous

At first the guide was late (15-20 mins). There was a mix up between the office and him on the meeting location. But things happen and we didn't really make a big deal about it. In summary there is nothing glamorous about this trip but the guys were real nice and knowledgable about the area and marine life. We saw the sunset even though we were running behind which was nice, got up close with some birds and marine life. Really enjoyed it actually but not really a romantic trip.

Beautiful tour.

This was a great tour of the mangroves and inlet near Boca Chica. The tour guide, James, lead us through a mangrove "creek" and through the shallows while pointing out the wildlife. It was truly hands on as we were able to pick up and investigate many marine animals. This is a non hurried tour and suitable for kayakers of all skill levels. The tour guide's knowledge of the animal life we encountered was amazing and really added to a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this tour.

The scenery is beautiful, a great way to spend a half day. Our guide was enthusiastic and worked very hard to seek out different sea life for the group to see. He also made the trip very interactive and educational, I would highly recommend the kayak eco-tour for all ages and groups.

Fun activity with a twist!

My husband and I have done several different guides kayak trips worldwide - but all during daylight hours. This trip provided a great opportunity to safely explore a waterway " after hours." Chad, while focused on safety, showed us the mangrove ecosystem at dusk and after dark. We were also to see marine creatures that are impossible to see during the day, such as bioluminescent algae and worms - very cool!

My husband and I were visiting the Keys for the first time and I had read about this tour on Trip Advisor .... We highy recommend this activity. The guide was informative and found things in the mangrove for us all to see and touch if we wanted .... ( except no touching those jellyfish ! ) it was a beautiful sunny not to windy day ... we took the afternoon tour and they picked us up at our Hotel ( Hilton ) .... we will do this again next time we are in the Keys !

Fun, but less than information than I expected.

This was a nice way to get out on the water and paddle around. You get some information on birds in the area and a few aquatic animals. It was more paddle time to get to the mangrove stands than I expected. Tour employees were nice and helpful. I would wear a swimsuit because the water coming off the paddle will soak your pants. The water is plenty warm and it was January when we went. I would probably just rent kayaks and explore on my own next time, but it was worth doing once.

This is a great time, beautiful, especially watching the sunset from the water. My husband and I enjoyed this immensely, enough that the next time we visit Key West, we will be doing the nature reserve trip during the day. We would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys the outdoors. What are you waiting for? ~Go book it now!! lol :) In all seriousness, we think you'll enjoy it as much as we did.

Sarah was fantastic! We booked this as an alternative to the standard Kayak tour as we thought kayaking at night would be fun and different. We were not disappointed. We ended up being the only people on the tour, so we were able to have our guide Sarah to ourselves. She was very knowledgeable about the local environment and very relaxed and fun. We saw some very interesting animals and were able to kayak in some unique settings, including through mangrove stands- and the night kayaking was very peaceful. We especially liked the different things you see at night from the kayaks. Watch out for the jumping fish. We highly recommend this tour.
