This kayaking trip was a peaceful way of exploring the ocean eco-system of Key West. I loved seeing the roosting area at dusk for the local birds, while continuing into night fall, observing the fascinating incubator and it's inhabitants. The grasses and mangroves provide a haven for the most interesting creatures in plant life , sea creatures, and even delicate little fire flies. I loved this trip because it is such a refreshing diversion from usual tourist activities. I strongly recommend this activity for young or old.

Had a fun trip. Great scenery, and was introduced to marine life that I'd never seen before. Night trip through the mangroves was an incredible, and challenging experience.

Fun kayak trip!

We booked the sunset kayak trip because it was something different and we really enjoyed it. One thing that made the trip fun was that it was at low tide so it was easier to see things in the water and for the guide to find critters to show. Because the moon wasn't too bright we were able to see the bioluminescence, which was really neat. When we first met our guide James, I was a bit turned off my his abrupt (and I thought a bit rude) attitude but he did a good job during the trip so in the end it was fine. You can either be picked up in the van or meet the van and follow them to the launch site. The van was really late maybe because they had to pick up a lot of people and it was ok to follow them because we were the only car but I could see if you had a lot of cars it would be easy to lose people. Seems like there has got to be a better meeting place closer to the launch site. The best thing about having the car is that you can just leave after and don't have to wait for everyone.

A great day with nature

Our guide, Sarah, was great. We were in a group with families with children and a grandparent. The excursion was appropriate for everyone. Sarah explained the wildlife that we saw and made it as hands on as possible. As jet skiers flew by we agreed that what we were doing was much more fun and interesting.

Our morning kayak tour was a great experience. We got to hold a conch, star fish, sea cucumber, and other living creatures from the sea while kayaking through and around mangroves. The guide was very educated on the wildlife and did a great job leading us. We even got to see a sting ray jump out of the water twice! We would definitely consider another kayak tour with Blue Planet if we get back to Key West.

Amazing sea life /guides who get it

My wife and I spent our anniversary week in Key West at the Pier House and did quite a few things over the week - but this was absolutely the best thing we did. This is a no-frills operation. If you're looking for a booze cruise you'll be disappointed. But, if you want to cruise a kayak on pristine water and see amazing sea life both above and below the water, i highly recommend this group. We've done dozens of guided kayak tours all over the country, and this was the best we've ever done. i strongly recommend the sunset tour. Working through the hammock with a headlamp on is unlike almost anything i've ever done. Amazing. do it.

Thank-you to our tour guide Katie for a wonderful time! It was such a fascinating and great educational experience on this tour. To kayak through the mangroves in complete darkness was simply fascinating! Highly recommended for those that like a unique kayak adventure and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Key West sunset!!

Fun, calm-water kayak trip

Fun, calm water kayak trip with guide knowledgeable about local waters and marine life. Suitable for novice kayakers. That day the navy jets were training around Boca Chica lagoon, which made for a noisy trip... not my favorite thing, although others on my trip rather enjoyed it.

Awesome and unique experience!

This was so very cool! First we paddled out to see birds roosting in the mangroves and watch the sun set. Then James, our guide, handed out headlamps, and we paddled through mangrove tunnels and open water in the dark. With the lights, we could see fish, lobsters and shrimp, crabs, and jellyfish. James would catch marine organisms in a net and/or bucket, and pass them around so we could take a look. I got to handle some very cool critters that I'd never heard of before. James knows a lot of fascinating information about the biology and ecology of the area, and is a wonderful and entertaining guide. We lucked out with a combination of low tide and no wind, so your mileage may vary, but I would recommend this trip in a heartbeat. The kayaks are easy to paddle and very stable: I'm not particularly athletic, and I had very little experience kayaking, but I had no trouble keeping up. Dry bags are provided so you can bring your camera and a light jacket if you want.

Really great tour! It was actually my first time kayaking but our guide Chad gave a quick lesson and that was all I needed. The sunset tour was great because you get to see things in daylight, sunset and at night. I had no idea we'd see so much - sea urchins, starfish, mangroves, bioluminescence just to name of a few things. My boyfriend loved it too. They provide you with waterproof bags to store your belongings, and headlamps for the night portion of the tour. We opted for hotel pick-up which was super-convenient since it was far from our hotel.
