There were only my husband and I on the tour but Rick gave us the full 3 hours and with his full attention. He is so enthusiatic about his Brooklyn and conveys the changes that have taken place over his 45 years of living there. If we could all be so enthusiastic about a special something! His extensive research is impressive and he is on the Net constantly to get more information. We recommend the tour for anyone interested in learning of the history of Brooklyn and wanting to see the fantastic brownstones in the area. Thanks, Rick.

An opportunity to really experience Brooklyn

The Brooklyn walking guided tour that I attended was an absolute success. I can recommend this tour as for it's way it gave me an impression of this part of New York. Richard demonstrated a thorough knowledge of practicaly every house or building we passed. He is a great storyteller. And he knows his way around on architecture and on people that lived there in the past. He gained his experience on a very practical base: having lived in the neighbourhood all his life. Walking through the streets was combined with walking through the park. Even a very Brooklyn like thing to do as pizza eating was comprised. An absolute recommendation !!

We greatly enjoyed our tour with Rick. I'm from the US and my girlfriend is from Germany so we decided to do the tour while both our parents were in town. Rick was very accommodating and patient since we needed to translate a few things along the way. He is a true Park Slope native and has many interesting anecdotes along the tour. We would definitely recommend the tour to anyone and especially to those who are interested in architecture and the history of Park Slope. Thanks again for a great tour Rick! Patrick

A Tour of Brooklyn's Prospect Park

In my recent visit to NYC, I really wanted to get out of Manhattan especially after a friend said that "you cannot miss a chance to go to Brooklyn". Using the internet, I found a Tour Grows in Brooklyn. Rick is a terrific guide wtih an encyclopedic knowledge of the Prospect Park -- famous residents, history and architecture. Since he is a native, he lived in the area before it gentrified, when it was an ethnic enclave and much rougher and grittier than now. As an urban planner, it was fascinating to have a personal view of the benefits and drawbacks to gentrification. I would recommend the trip to anyone who wants to get the flavor of the "other" New York City.

I am visiting my daughter and while she was a work I worked out while seeing the city. It was a wonderful combination and beats sitting on the bus by millions. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about his home town and we got a personal look at today and the past. I would recommend this tour to the new and the life long learners who want to know just a little more than the book tells. Bookmark this tour as a must!

We can't praise enough the experience that Rick gave us in his wonderful A Tour Grows in Brooklyn! He gave a fascinating, lively, and personally engaging tour of a wonderful area of Brooklyn. He has a wonderful knowledge of architectural styles and history in the area, which is enhanced by his personal stories of growing up there. He's great at answering questions, and eager to learn bits of information we knew. And he went above and beyond the requirements of the tour, taking us by car on a delightful tour of a major cemetary that expanded upon the themes in the walking tour. He made us feel special! Bravo, Rick!

You'll know more than most Brooklynites

The best thing about any trip is visiting a fascinating place AND knowing a local. We were in town from LA, but our local friends had just moved to Brooklyn. So we were sunk, just wandering aimlessly around the local haunts and feeling out-of-place. But Big Rick and his famous Fedora left us feeling like downright 20 year locals. Think of this as less of a tour and more of the start of a friendship. He's a local who loves his hometown, knows intimate details about dozens of world-class buildings and other points of historical interest and provides (BEST OF ALL) enough authentic local flavor to make this the highlight of our visit to NYC. Brooklyn has more history in a half-block than many states. And it's all waiting to be discovered as we learned. If you want to snap a few photos for the folks back home, take a double-decker tour of Manhattan. If you actually want something interesting to remember for the rest of your life, take the trip to BK and enjoy three hours of pleasant conversation, strolling and endless points of interest. If Rick were ever in Los Angeles, I'd gladly take him around our neighborhood and buy him dinner in gratitude for this. An awesome, authentic and just all around enjoyable way to spend a few hours. Thanks for the (expletive) great time, Rick! ;) Mike Hudson, 30, creative director -- Los Angeles, CA
