Enjoyable neighborhood walk with a fun tour guide
Sat, Apr 11  12:00 PM Paqi53 Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
The Park Slope tour was an enjoyable afternoon exploring a beautiful neighborhood with lots of character and charm. "Big Rick", our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the area, lots of fun, and really personalized the tour with his own stories from growing up in the area. Even with three hours, there wasn't enough time to really explore Prospect Park. They should consider a separate tour of the park that really delves into its history, etc., and lets you see the main areas of the park beyond the long meadow. Not a complaint, but a reason to go back!!

Rainy day with Rick

We took the walking tour of Brooklyn with Rick on the Saturday before Easter. Rick called that morning to advise us to bring umbrellas. It is a good thing we did because it rained for all of the 3 hour tour. Rick made it enjoyable despite the weather. He is enthusiastic and has a wealth of information about Brooklyn. He grew up there and is able to tell you about the culture of the neighborhood then as well as now. He can tell personal stories as well as fill you in on the architecture and history of Brooklyn. He was able to give us tips on where to eat and what else to do in Brooklyn. If you want a slice of life in Brooklyn Rick is the the "go to guy".

Rick met us across the street from the Subway Stop. It is a quiet, safe, economical ride in the subway from Manhattan. The area you come up from the subway seemed totally safe and secure. We crossed the street and met "Rick" who immediately ducked into a shop and came out offering us a bottle of water for our walking tour. Then he dove right in -- enthusiastically describing the area; the local landmark bank, the bank clock, and the transitions (and dangers) of living in the area for several generations. Rick also gave his own perspective on the future growth of the neighborhood. You couldn't help but immediately grow to like his affable personality. My wife and I noticed right away that he was "original" and quite enthusiastic about showing off his hometown. He was also rightly proud of all the folks that have made names from themselves who claim Brooklyn as their home. He's a master of the different styles of architecture in the neighborhoods around Park Slope and he easily handled our questions as we walked up Park Slope and through Prospect Park. About 2/3rds of the way through the tour you were treated to an authentic slice of Brooklyn pizza. Study up on how a Brooklyn native eats pizza or you'll instantly be spotted as a non-native. It was a wonderful experience and very enjoyable. The tour lasted about 2 hours and 45 minutes. It was not rushed nor forced. It felt long enough to feel like you got your money's worth, learned a bit about the area and not so long that you bored of the material he was presenting. My wife and I would heartily recommend this tour and especially Rick. VR Drew Dwyer Col, USMC (Ret)

Brooklyn with a personal touch

Rick's is 100% native Brooklyn and his enthusiasm is what makes the tour. Having journeyed to New York many times this was refreshing in that Rick gives insight as to the history of this famous place in context to the history of Manhattan. My 13 year old daughter and friend joined my wife and I and stayed engaged the whole time. Brooklyn is a great urban space and Rick’s history helps you understand the good times and hard times that make Brooklyn…Brooklyn ! We met neighbors and eat pizza at his favorite local shop. Anyone interested in the full history of the greater New York area should check it out.

My guide, Rick, knew everything there is to know about Brooklyn. He was patient while I took numerous photos, and gave me wonderful insight into what we were seeing. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the "real Brooklyn" from a true native who loves his town.

We had a fabulous walk with Rick. He was knowledgeable, fun and interesting. We were lucky to have him all to our selves. We followed his suggestions for two other days exploring in Brooklyn, which we would not have done without his encouragement. We recommend him with enthusiasm and will take another tour with him when we return to NYC.

Brooklyn Walking Tour - Sat. Feb. 7

Recently, a friend & I signed up for the Park Slope tour & strolled around this beautiful Brooklyn neighborhood with Big Rick. After the tour was done, we met other friends & found ourselves relaying what we'd learned on this informative tour that took place in an area that neither one of us knew much about at the start. Hearing stories from Rick's childhood days, growing up in Brooklyn, brought a warmth to the tour that is hard to beat since most tours of other cities are given by 'hired guns' who simply memorize details while Rick actually experienced the ones that he portrayed. He pointed out many sights & architectural details - both past & present, that would surely have been missed had we done our own walking tour. Thanks for providing this service! One Brooklyn neighborhood 'down', others to follow!

Enthusiasts always make the best leaders and teachers. Rick was born in the neighbourhood and lives there today; he is passionate and informative. Having a walk with him in the winter sunshine was a pleasure. By chance I live in an area of Glasgow that boomed around 1880 and built sandstobne town houses and apartment blocks at the same time. I was taken by surprise to find the same pattern of house building and street scape in Brooklyn. Doing low key tours like this is much more rewarding than the A list or glamour sites. Alan
