Highlight of my trip!
Thu, Apr 24, 08   10:00 AM mlk1958 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Big Rick is equal parts storyteller, historian, architecture maven, and street-corner philosopher. The tour was just a blast -- we learned a lot and had a wonderful time. It was a highlight of my trip to New York and I would urge anybody who loves history and architecture (not to mention pizza and interesting characters!) to give it a go!

Getting a true feel of Brooklyn

Big Rick's walking tour of Brooklyn is as unique as Brooklyn itself. Rick starts in his old neighborhood of Park Slope and explains it's history and changes through a personal perspective. The walking tour expands and winds through quiet rows of brownstones, bustling retail strips, historical sites, prospect park and offers up close introduction to many landmarks. Rick lets you appreciate some late 19th & early 20th century architecture, offering a vast knowledge of information about the builders and famous home owners and histories. After a slice of Brooklyn-style Pizza, Rick's personable tour and your gained knowledge of the rich history of the neighborhoods, you walk away feeling a little bit like you belong there, that you were a Brooklynite for a few hours.

One of the best walking tours I have been on in all of my travels. We learned things not only about Brooklyn, but NYC as a whole. Saw beautiful sights and really grew an appreciation for Brooklyn. The tour was both entertaining and educational, I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice afternoon with the nicest guide around.

My brother and I went on this tour, because it had been recommended to us by a good friend. We had never visited Brooklyn before, but had high expectations, which were met fully. Rick met us at 10am with a bottle of water, a big smile, and great enthusiasm. He showed us around the major areas of Brooklyn and demonstrated extensive knowledge of its architecture, history, and culture. We had so much fun and think this tour was definitely the best thing we did during our stay in New York City. Rick was also very helpful with suggestions for other enjoyable activities in the area. Booking our tickets online through Zerve was very convenient.

Great tour with a true Brooklyn native

My girlfriend and I went on this tour just for something to do on a Sunday morning. We met the tour guide, Rick, in Park Slope. As soon as we met him, he made us feel comfortable and we knew we were going to enjoy the tour. Rick was extremely knowledgeable about the history and architecture in the area, and he added a lot of personality to the tour. He grew up in the neighborhood and his love for the area shows. As such, you will learn a lot about the neighborhood that only a Brooklyn native could tell you. My advice is to do the earlier tour so that you can stroll down 5th and 7th ave at your own pace and enjoy the park later in the day.

Rick's Brooklyn

There were only my husband and I on the tour but Rick gave us the full 3 hours and with his full attention. He is so enthusiatic about his Brooklyn and conveys the changes that have taken place over his 45 years of living there. If we could all be so enthusiastic about a special something! His extensive research is impressive and he is on the Net constantly to get more information. We recommend the tour for anyone interested in learning of the history of Brooklyn and wanting to see the fantastic brownstones in the area. Thanks, Rick.

An opportunity to really experience Brooklyn
Sun, Mar 30, 08   1:30 PM Willemse Male 40-49 International Tourist(s) Individual
The Brooklyn walking guided tour that I attended was an absolute success. I can recommend this tour as for it's way it gave me an impression of this part of New York. Richard demonstrated a thorough knowledge of practicaly every house or building we passed. He is a great storyteller. And he knows his way around on architecture and on people that lived there in the past. He gained his experience on a very practical base: having lived in the neighbourhood all his life. Walking through the streets was combined with walking through the park. Even a very Brooklyn like thing to do as pizza eating was comprised. An absolute recommendation !!

We greatly enjoyed our tour with Rick. I'm from the US and my girlfriend is from Germany so we decided to do the tour while both our parents were in town. Rick was very accommodating and patient since we needed to translate a few things along the way. He is a true Park Slope native and has many interesting anecdotes along the tour. We would definitely recommend the tour to anyone and especially to those who are interested in architecture and the history of Park Slope. Thanks again for a great tour Rick! Patrick

A Tour of Brooklyn's Prospect Park
Fri, Mar 28, 08   1:30 PM bevbookin Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
In my recent visit to NYC, I really wanted to get out of Manhattan especially after a friend said that "you cannot miss a chance to go to Brooklyn". Using the internet, I found a Tour Grows in Brooklyn. Rick is a terrific guide wtih an encyclopedic knowledge of the Prospect Park -- famous residents, history and architecture. Since he is a native, he lived in the area before it gentrified, when it was an ethnic enclave and much rougher and grittier than now. As an urban planner, it was fascinating to have a personal view of the benefits and drawbacks to gentrification. I would recommend the trip to anyone who wants to get the flavor of the "other" New York City.
