A Tour of Brooklyn's Prospect Park

| In my recent visit to NYC, I really wanted to get out of Manhattan especially after a friend said that "you cannot miss a chance to go to Brooklyn". Using the internet, I found a Tour Grows in Brooklyn. Rick is a terrific guide wtih an encyclopedic knowledge of the Prospect Park -- famous residents, history and architecture. Since he is a native, he lived in the area before it gentrified, when it was an ethnic enclave and much rougher and grittier than now. As an urban planner, it was fascinating to have a personal view of the benefits and drawbacks to gentrification. I would recommend the trip to anyone who wants to get the flavor of the "other" New York City. | ||||||

| I am visiting my daughter and while she was a work I worked out while seeing the city. It was a wonderful combination and beats sitting on the bus by millions. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about his home town and we got a personal look at today and the past. I would recommend this tour to the new and the life long learners who want to know just a little more than the book tells. Bookmark this tour as a must! | ||||||

| We can't praise enough the experience that Rick gave us in his wonderful A Tour Grows in Brooklyn! He gave a fascinating, lively, and personally engaging tour of a wonderful area of Brooklyn. He has a wonderful knowledge of architectural styles and history in the area, which is enhanced by his personal stories of growing up there. He's great at answering questions, and eager to learn bits of information we knew. And he went above and beyond the requirements of the tour, taking us by car on a delightful tour of a major cemetary that expanded upon the themes in the walking tour. He made us feel special! Bravo, Rick! | ||||||

| The best thing about any trip is visiting a fascinating place AND knowing a local. We were in town from LA, but our local friends had just moved to Brooklyn. So we were sunk, just wandering aimlessly around the local haunts and feeling out-of-place. But Big Rick and his famous Fedora left us feeling like downright 20 year locals. Think of this as less of a tour and more of the start of a friendship. He's a local who loves his hometown, knows intimate details about dozens of world-class buildings and other points of historical interest and provides (BEST OF ALL) enough authentic local flavor to make this the highlight of our visit to NYC. Brooklyn has more history in a half-block than many states. And it's all waiting to be discovered as we learned. If you want to snap a few photos for the folks back home, take a double-decker tour of Manhattan. If you actually want something interesting to remember for the rest of your life, take the trip to BK and enjoy three hours of pleasant conversation, strolling and endless points of interest. If Rick were ever in Los Angeles, I'd gladly take him around our neighborhood and buy him dinner in gratitude for this. An awesome, authentic and just all around enjoyable way to spend a few hours. Thanks for the (expletive) great time, Rick! ;) Mike Hudson, 30, creative director -- Los Angeles, CA | ||||||

| Rick, the tour guide, is a Brooklyn native and provides a very enjoyable walking tour of an interesting part of Brooklyn. The tour mixes architectural observations with comments about the area's history, and it provides a very nice introduction to this part of NYC. It also points out some nice areas that one could visit further on one's own (shopping, parks, museums, etc.) | ||||||

| As soon as we met our tour guide, Rick Kadlub, we knew that this tour was going to be fun. The enthusiasum and love that Rick displayed for his neighborhood of Brooklyn would have been great alone. Rick also shared a wealth of knowledge that we have not been lucy enough to experience on other tours of various regions of New York City. My group has an interest in architecture; an area that Rick masters. It should be noted that beyond Rick's love for his home, his Grandmother (we enjoyed the stories he shared with us) and people in general, he is also a gentleman. Mr. Kadlub will soon be conducting tours of Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery. Our group was fortunate to get a preview of that tour with Rick. We will be booking this tour on our next visit. This tour is sure to satisfy those with interests in architecture and history. I have been coming to NY with groups of friends for the last few years. We always schedule at least two tours for our three day trips. Some of the tours have been AWFUL-never want to do that again and would not recommend it to anyone, OKAY-but not likely to do it again, someone else may enjoy it, GOOD-kept our interest and would recommend to others, GREAT-want to share this experience with everyone we know and would enjoy again. Of course "A Tour Grows In Brooklyn" is filed under GREAT. Thank you Mr. Kadlub! | ||||||

| Big Rick offers the best walking tour in New York, and I've been on many. He is a native of Brooklyn and knows much of the real and anecdotal history first hand. What he hasn't lived, he has researched. It is like a stroll through time and the neighborhood with an old friend. Even locals will come to see architectural detail they never before noticed. You also will benefit from his tips on shopping and restaurants. This tour is an excellent value, and great exercise. There is a good bit of walking, so bring comfortable shoes. | ||||||

| Without a doubt the most prepared tour I have been on since moving to New York City 6 months. I could not have asked for a more knowledgeable guide or enthaustic on his subject. Brooklyn appeared to me before the tour as some where over one of the several bridges. But now I see and appreciate this special section called Park Slope. And the highlight official Brooklyn pie(pizza) what a treat. The next time I have vistors this is on the schedule. Great time. | ||||||

| My husband and I have recently moved to New York from London and are keen to get to know the city better. As such we booked ourselves on the Brooklyn Walk. Well, we were not disappointed. So the tour starts off in the least stunning spot you are likely to see on the walk, but Rick quickly takes you to a more picturesque Brooklyn whilst sprinkling it with great local knowledge (born and breed) and historical facts. The company is fairly new, but the information offered is thorough, amusing and interesting. We were lucky to have Rick to ourselves, but don't be disappointed if you join a bigger group as he has enough chat for everyone. Three hours well spent. | ||||||

| My husband and I appreciated this wonderful opportunity to experience the architecture and historic sites of this fabulous Brooklyn neighborhood, guided by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic native son. Our guide was a storehouse of Brooklyn lore, and the tour covers quite a range of picturesque streets, including the fabulous brownstones, Prospect Park, churches, and Brooklyn's charming Fifth Avenue with its alluring shops and restaurants. We enjoyed the pizza break, and look forward to coming back to spend more time here. The guide couldn't be more friendly, he even gave as a ride to the Brooklyn Museum of Art at the end of the tour. Thanks for a great introduction to Brooklyn. | ||||||

| Rick was one of the most interesting, informed and likeable guy you'd ever want to meet! His walking tour of Brooklyn exceeded our expectations. His passion for Brooklyn was evident by all the interesting things he knew from street to street. We would highly recommend this tour as a must do when you visit NY! Nashvile, TN | ||||||

| I took the 3-hour tour on a cold morning of February. Despite the crisp temperatures, time flew by and l learnt a lof about the history of this neighborhood of Brooklyn. After an architecture walk, we went for a stroll in Prospect park and came back to the shopping/dining area for lunch. The guide, Rick, was very knowledgeable and generous with stories. I shall recommend this tour to my friends and take a new tour soon. | ||||||

| This was a fun and informational tour of Brooklyn, featuring many beautiful architectural landmarks and homes, Prospect Park, Grand Army Plaza, and shopping on Brooklyn's "New Fifth Avenue." Tour guide Rick clearly has a passion and a great deal of knowledge of his native Brooklyn. We had a great three hours on a beautiful winter day, including a stop for some great Brooklyn pizza, included in the tour. Definitely recommended for something different in New York City! | ||||||
