We showed up with an open mind and figured that the rated R tag was a gimmick. We were wrong. The tour, while a little too focused on about 3 stories was entertaining, funny, and informative. The guide was knowledgeable and all the while emphasized a sense of humor. He was more than willing to answer questions and seemed to be an expert on most of what he was talking about. The description says 90 minutes of walking but is more accurately about 20 minutes of walking and 70 minutes of listening to the guide and uncovering details on the scene. My girlfriend and I found that the guides tone vividly brought you back in history to a world filled with crime and prostitution. I would recommend this to anyone without children who is looking for a good time and a few good laughs. The tour left me wanting to experience the other ones offered.
Rating: 3 Guide was not comfortable

We had a mixed tour group of all ages, and ethnicity, so I'm unsure if this affected the tour guide and the topics being discussed. He started out very awkwardly, and only became comfortable towards the end of the tour. The R rating for the tour information is purely marketing. There really wasn't anything risque about it. Mostly the "darkside" refers to the darkside of humanity. The treatment of slaves, soldiers, and the poor. It was very revealing and informational. My friend called it depressing. Not for light fair, or general entertainment, but a good history lesson.
Rating: 5 This is a great tour!!!

I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is fun-loving and free-spirited. This was the first tour we did out of four of them in two days, but this was the most fun and well-worth the money. We felt this was the highlight of our trip. We wanted something carefree and fun to do the night we got married, and this was wonderful!

We had so much fun on this walk!! It was our first time in Charleston, even though we're only a short car ride from there. It was very interesting to hear the stories of the city - alot of which we didn't know. Thanks for a great time!! We'll definatley be back!!

Our guide was was well spoken and knew his facts about the topics that he spoke about. He came with articles from various newspapers to support his stories. He was humorous and made the tour very enjoyable. We recommend the tour. Great fun!

This tour is great if you want to find out about Charleston history and scandals, and if you want to stay away from ghosts! The tour guide was very knowledgable and willing to adjust the tour to our interests. Fascinating stories that we still talked about on our way home and the next day. Highly recommended to both locals and tourists.
Rating: 5 This tour was a different spin on Charleston.

The tour guide was very knowledgable and interesting. He said he had researched the material for the tour himself. He kept the group engaged and was able to entertain questions on Charleston topics unrelated to the subject matter of the tour as well.
Rating: 5 WOW!

This tour was so much fun. The walking distance was nothing, not even a short workout! The history of Charleston is so interesting, I never thought that such scandalous, sleazy people founded the city! I'm only 20 and I absolutely hate textbook history - this tour, however, was absolutely intriguing. If only all of history were presented in such an interesting and entertaining way - I'd probably make all A's! I would recommend this tour to ANYONE - 17 or 97...as long as you can stand for an hour and a half! Weather you go solo or with a group...It's a tour well worth $17!
