Our group was relatively small so our guide made sure we knew that we could take our time and ask questions or to have him expand on anything that interested us. He made the tour interesting and had great stories. We actually asked few questions so the tour didn't go into overtime but the guide was perfectly willing, capable and enthusiastic about spending time and giving us a well rounded experience.

Yes, it was a 10:30pm tour, I was tired. But our guide was just a bit too layed back. I understood and accepted that this tour was intended for adults only. But this ADULT dislikes the use of the "F" word. Which seemed to be a staple in our guides language. We walked alot, he talked some, what little info we got was interesting. I am sure the guy really does love the Charleston history. The Group started with 8 people ended with 4, people kept disappearing, AND I do not think it was supernatural in nature..

hard to understand

our tour guide was talking in an extremely hard to pick up local dialect. I could barely understand what he was trying to say. After my feedback to him he did not change a bit. So it was disappointing in the end. H-J Hermann

Needed more structure

The tour was enjoyable. Our guide Lane was obviously very knowledgeable in Charleston history, and could answer any question asked, but the tour itself seemed a bit meandering. Still I'm a history and crime buff so I enjoyed the overall tour. My biggest reccomendation is to tell Lane to leave the "dip" behind so he isn't spitting into a cup during the tour, and will be more understandable when he speaks.

Worth the money

Our tour guide did an excellent job - he appeared to be very passionate about the material he covered. We liked the dynamics of the group, in that he was open to questions and let the group direct the subject matter. I do think that the group may have been a little large, but everyone in the group was considerate of the others. No reason not to recommend the tour.

I found Lane to be a very well informed and entertaining tour guide. He has researched the topic of Darkside tales of Charleston thoroughly and strives to show the exact location of the stories he relates.

Our Dark Side of Charleston tour was very interesting and informative. The guide, Lane, was very knowledgable. Found out alot of facts you might not find in the books.

Tour leaders make or break the tour

This tour sounded like a fun thing to do on a Friday night . Our tour leader was Lane. He was a nice guy, but his demeanor was so laid back and his speaking voice was soft and so slow it was hard to understand him at times. It also came across as a bit "preachy" and there was no humor at all. At 10 PM on a Friday night you need to work at keeping people engaged and involved, otherwise it becomes boring. I think this tour might be great with a more enthuiastic leader.

A bit disappointed

The tour guide spend the bulk of the tour on a story about a resident of Charleston (he is researching for a book) . It was an interesting story, but in the end we only got a tour of one building which was a former house of prostitution. He did tell a few interesting stories, but seemed more focused on his writing career, than on actually giving a walking tour.
