Great Time

We had a great time on this tour. Our guide was Lane and he was fantastic! I learned so much about Charleston, and not just the "dark" information promised. Lane was able to answer all of our questions and directed us to a particular haunted bar we were wanting to visit. Someone made a request to stop by a cemetary, and he was more than happy to unlock the gate and give us interesting information about the church, cemetary, and some of the buried folks. And don't be too put off by the Rated R category. There was some salty language, but nothing the average 12 year old hasn't heard on TV.

Tour Guide

The tour guide was exceptionly good. He made it very interesting and kept my attention. I was tired and had a hard time standing because of leg pain so that is why I rated it neutral. It was also very hot and I didnt bring any water. The history information was great but the content was surprising even though I knew what the tour was going to be about. Overall it was good but I think the people going on the tour need to be really aware of its content but calling it the Dark Side pretty much tells you that. Again, the tour guide was great and knows his history very well and was humorous as well as interesting. Janice Daniels

Fantastic history and tour guide...

This tour was a fantastic "history" of Charleston. There was a lot of information from our tour guide, Lane. He made the tour interesting and informative. It wasn't much of a sightseeing tour, rather an immersion into the heritage of Charleston and incidents that occurred there. Reminders that you are standing on the same streets as George Washington and Blackbeard once walked are quite mind-boggling. Excellent tour.

description of tour

The description of the tour should specifically state "This is not a Ghost Tour" Most people just skim the description and think this is a ghost tour as I was not the only one on this tour that thought that. I wish you would include in the heading Not a ghost tour. I thought it was boring and not something I care to hear about. Most people felt the same. I assume part of the responsibility for not reading well, but it would be nice if you would include this in your header. I ended up leaving early.

Sex, Drugs, and Lies

This tour was a fun experience. It was the second time I had been on the tour and the stories were all new. It is not your normal history tour. Instead you learn about the sex, drugs, and lies that plauged Charleston throughout its history. You get to visit different places and learn their "interesting histories". I would definitley recommend this tour to anyone who doesn't have children along and doesn't mind a long walk.

Great tour for locals

I have lived in Charleston for 2 years and finally tried the Dark side of Chas tour and loved it. Our tour guide Lane was very knowledgeable not only just about the tour he was giving but others as well. One thing to take note is that this tour is not scary or a ghost tour it is only about some of the crimes and punishments that were harsh given back in the day. Overall the tour was great!!

Well worth the $

Our guide, Lane, was extremely knowledgable about the historic and current City of Charleston. The tour balanced elements of historic past and local legend into a great story-telling adventure. The Darkside of Charleston provides a detail-rich, hands-on account of events that you cannot find in books; that is what makes it so intriguing. I would highly recommend this to any history enthusiast.

A bit disappointed

The tour guide spend the bulk of the tour on a story about a resident of Charleston (he is researching for a book) . It was an interesting story, but in the end we only got a tour of one building which was a former house of prostitution. He did tell a few interesting stories, but seemed more focused on his writing career, than on actually giving a walking tour.

I would recommend the tour, it was fun and interesting. The tour guide knew what he was talking about. But be prepared to walk as it is a walking tour. Even for locals it is something fun to do.
