There really wasn't much to the tour, a few stories but nothing very exciting or entertaining.

Fun and different look at an old American City. Twist on history you won't find any where else. Guide knew his stuff and shared it in an interesting way.

Do The Dark Side Tour before you do any other!

Taking the Dark Side Tour as your very 1st tour in Charleston is a great way to go! The next day our group took the much tamer tours such as a carriage ride and we were able to see the city in a whole different light thanks to the Dark Side Tour.

My husband and I had a great time on this tour. We learned a lot of interesting historical things that were new to us.

The stories on this tour are somewhat interesting, but what was disappointing is that there weren't really "sites" to go along with the stories. We stood in a parking lot for one, on the street for another, in front of Sax 5th Avenue, etc...The most interesting site was at the tour's close--an old brothel. I think we would have enjoyed this tour much more with a different guide. Our guide--Rebel Sinclair--was very over-the-top. We are not prudes by any means. We don't care about cursing, about crudeness, and are not offended by anything. And we weren't offended by her at all. It was just that much of her cursing and crude talk was done to simply try to shock us, I guess--it was simply done for the sake of being crude. She even began to tell men on the tour how to "please" women sexually, which was just odd. She was just too cheesy for us. I think if we had it to do over again, we would have done a ghost tour b/c at least there are sites involved in that. She was a very enthusiastic guide and perfectly nice--just not very enjoyable. I would not suggest doing this tour in the August. It was miserably hot even at 10pm.

The TRUE History of Charleston!

As a local I get tired of the usual "Charleston is so pretty. . . here's Rainbow Row" touristy stuff. The Dark Side of Charleston gave us an excellent overview of what this city is really about - crime, corruption, murder, scandals, etc. Our tour guide, Lane, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Who would've ever thought such an aristocratic place had a "free love colony"???!! Tired of ghost tours and looking for something different? TAKE this tour!

great tour, the only thing I would change would be the clothes that the guide wears. I know it is hot so this might be a mute point. Anyway, it was a great tour. I look forward for a return visit to try the other tours.

Good for a different point of view

There is always a darkside. After hearing and reading about all of the wonderful and influential peolpe and how they helped shape the nation, it was enlightening to hear about the other people and perhaps the other faces of the famous leaders. The guide, Jim, was very imformative and knowledgable. I would have liked to see more. We hear stories about many areas of town but we did not seem to cover that much of it.
