Wasn't what we expected

The stories on this tour are somewhat interesting, but what was disappointing is that there weren't really "sites" to go along with the stories. We stood in a parking lot for one, on the street for another, in front of Sax 5th Avenue, etc...The most interesting site was at the tour's close--an old brothel. I think we would have enjoyed this tour much more with a different guide. Our guide--Rebel Sinclair--was very over-the-top. We are not prudes by any means. We don't care about cursing, about crudeness, and are not offended by anything. And we weren't offended by her at all. It was just that much of her cursing and crude talk was done to simply try to shock us, I guess--it was simply done for the sake of being crude. She even began to tell men on the tour how to "please" women sexually, which was just odd. She was just too cheesy for us. I think if we had it to do over again, we would have done a ghost tour b/c at least there are sites involved in that. She was a very enthusiastic guide and perfectly nice--just not very enjoyable. I would not suggest doing this tour in the August. It was miserably hot even at 10pm.

The tour was ok in general. I felt that there really wasn't enough for a separate tour. It should just be added to one of the others.

I have mixed opinions about the tour. My complaint was the drunks that were included in my group. They were loud obnoxious, always interrupting the tour guide making rude and inappropriate comments. I eventually just walked away from the tour. It got that bad. I later found out that they were from Pennsylvania. Typical Yankees!!!!

Different Spin on History

This was our first trip to Charleston and the historical information was interesting. The tour, however, did not live up to our expectations. If we had been able to enter some of the buildings it might have been more interesting.

The tour was very good. I couldn't hardly understand the tour guide because of his tone of voice and his accent. I wish he would have spoke louder and clearer.

Dark Side Tour Comments

I had great expectations for this tour - but they didn't pan out. It was R rated (as advertised) so it wouldn't be appropriate for young children. But more than that, it was rather depressing. I guess I had expected it to be a little more light hearted, but there was no light heartedness. Also, although our guide was knowledgeble, he had a very unusual accent that made him very difficult to understand - and he tended to speak somewhat quietly.

If you like the darker side of history.....

Walking the same path of history's past was thrilling. Having a tour guide knowing facts, dates and people without hesitation while giving descriptive details about the seedy, dark and secretive past of such a historic city was captivating. I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this tour while visiting Charleston, SC.

We very much enjoyed the Darkside of Charleston Tour. We had also taken the Ghost and Graveyards tour two days earlier and were somewhat disappointed by our guide. Big difference on the Darkside tour. We have been on several ghost walks in other cities and have found no matter what tour you take your experience is always determined by the guide
