We really enjoyed the Darkside tour. Our guide, Eli, was very nice and made the walk even more interesting through his manner of story-telling. It was obvious he was well-studied in the history of the area. |

We had a great time on our "Darkside" tour. Our guide was very nice and willing to answer any questions including general history. It was obvious he enjoyed his job and was very knowledgeable!! It was amazing to stand on the very spot the historical events took place, and interesting to hear about topics not readily discussed on other tours. I highly recommend this tour. It (as any would) is even better if you can brush up on the history of specific topics that interest you on your own before going - the tour guide will be able to fill in the gaps and answer any specific questions you have! Fun for all...over 18 of course. |

This was a great historical tour of Charleston's brothels, murders, and other unsavory secrets. No worrying about what goes bump in the night, this is for those who enjoy learning about a city's dark secrets. |

We started our tour with about 16 to 20 people. However, this quickly was reduced to less than 10 when our leader refused to slow the walking pace (even though he had told the group he would accommodate everyone before he started the tour). After those folks had returned to the tour office for a refund, we continued the tour. The guide was not very professional. He looked disheveled, carried an empty coffee cup and shared information randomly. He admitted that he had no set plan for the tour. I would not recommend this tour to anyone. |

We took the walking tour into the "dark side" and, aside from the heat, really enjoyed the experience. The guide was very knowledgeable, answered all questions and royally entertained us. We look forward to returning to Charleston and taking other tours of the area which you offer. |

We really enjoyed the "Dark Side of Charleston" tour. Some members of our party had not visited the city, and our wonderful guide, Eli, was so great at combining the "have to knows" of Charleston with insiders' references. He was so charming; we cannot wait to try the "Ghosts and Graveyard" Tour. We will definitely refer our friends and family to the "Dark Side". |

Our 18 year old son, who despises historic activities and disliked the carriage tour, chose this tour because he said that if he had to do another historic tour, he wanted it to be nontraditional.
The tour is as BullDog advertises it -- a rated R tour -- the guide describes to you in explicit and, at times, vulgar language the not-so-charming things about Charleston -- prostitution, murders, lynchings, etc. But, at the same time you learn a lot about the city's history and culture at various stages.
To be honest, our family tour group went with the expectation that it would be cheesy. We were just hoping to have a good walk at night and learn a couple tidbits about the city, but every single one of us found the whole tour experience so unusual that it was enjoyable and informative in an odd sort of way. Our family group was an unusual mix and included two religious women, two 18 year olds and a # of middle aged professionals.
Lane, the tour guide, is really into and appears to be extremely knowledgeable of the "dark" history of the city. While his southern accent was initially difficult to understand we all eventually grew used to it. In the end, we felt his personality, mannerisms, and accent added alot to the whole tour experience.
We recommend the tour for those who like unusual tourist activities, aren't offended by explicit language, and enjoy a brisk long walk at night!

Our tour guide, I believe his name was Lance, was very informative. The only problem I had was understanding some of what he was saying. I know that most of it was due to background noise, but hey, that's my only complaint! Other than that it was an excellent tour! |

My wife and I enjoy history and we are not convinced that the historical accuracy of this tour was "spot-on." However, with that disclaimer, we enjoyed ourselves and found our guide to be informed, an excellent story teller and willing to accomodate our questions. There was likely some historical basis for the stories and our guide made the stories very plausible and definitely very entertaining. We had a good time. This walk compares favorably with other ghost tours and the like from other Southern cities where we have enjoyed this type of evening entertainment. Keep up the good work! |
