Our tour guide Susan B. (I think) was very knowledgeable but didn't keep us interested. The dungeon was the first place we went but it was more or less just a cellar, nothing spooky about it! After that we continued on down the street with more ghost stories. Although Susan knew the history she was boring so we ended up skipping out on the last half. |

Our family of four recently visited Charleston and went on the Ghost and Dungeon tour. Our tour guide was David, who grew up and Charleston and was very knowledgeable of Charleston history. He provided lots of facts related to Charleston and lead to many tales of the Ghosts of Charleston. The tour was just great. My husband and I, as well as our children, ages 8 and 14, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend it.
Many thanks to David, who managed to teach us a bit, while entertaining and showing us a great time!

We come to Charleston with a group of friends every Easter and every year we go on a ghost tour. This year, we had approximately 25 in our group. We reserved 24 tickets over the phone about two weeks prior to coming to Charleston. When making the reservation, we explicitly told the reservation agent that we had 24 people in ONE group and they said that was fine.
We arrived with all 24 people at Bulldog tours 20 minutes prior to our reservation time only to learn, for the first time, that tour groups were limited to a maximum of 20 people and we would have to be split up. That is not what we wanted and we would have not reserved that many tickets had we known in advance that we could not go on the tour as a complete group. The lady at Bulldog Tours in the ticket office was very rude when we complained about the situation. Her response was that the phone center that took the reservation was not part of Bulldog tours and probably didn't tell us the maximum size of a tour group because they didn't know but she couldn't do anything about it. It was her attitude that will keep us from using Bulldog Tours again. And it was her attitude that led us to tell a youth group planning a trip to Charleston to avoid using Bulldog Tours.
Our tour guide that night lacked any real enthusiasm or story-telling ability. All in all, it was a huge disappointment. |

Our guide's name was Eric, and he was fantastic! Very knowledgeable about the history of the area, and very entertaining. He told great ghost stories, and answered every question we had. I have been on many ghost walks, in Gettysberg, Savannah, etc., and this one ranks in the top 3. We didn't want it to end!!!!
Sincerely,

i understand that this tour is given often and the stories have become memorized, but our guide was...forcing inflection . i dunno, it was alright but...and the Poe story was only half told. it was interesting. i guess it just fell a little flat with me. |

The guide did a good job and we enjoyed the stops. I would have liked a couple of minutes to look around (the graveyard and the dungeon) after she finished talking, but she moved on quickly.
The negative of our tour was other customers. There was a boy (about 9 years old) who asked question after question and was not kept under control by his parents. They also had two young children (about 12 months) who were fussy and crying through the entire dungeon. Maybe Bulldog needs an age policy (no one under 3 years?) and a comment about limiting young children's comments.
Don't get me wrong, I love kids. I am a kindergarten teacher. However, I paid $54 and I want to get my money's worth too. |

I found the tour interesting and the tour guide was great at relating the stories. There were some children on our tour and they were a bit distracting, but the guide dealt with them very well. I didn't find the tour scary or frightening, but it was entertaining. The guide walked a little fast from stop to stop, but other than that it was a very enjoyable experience. |
