I took my step-kids, who are young adults visiting from Ireland. This was on their list of things to do, having taken this tour last year. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour both times, and would recommend it to teenagers and older. |

The tour was interesting due impart to the tour guide's well informed narrations. The restoration makes it understandable why ther isn't much movement throughout the jail house. There were parts of the jail I thought we were going to enter but never made it into. I suggested to the guide an interactive example be set up which would show how many prisoners per square foot there were when the jail was at maximum capacity, to show how cramped the quarters may have been. All in all, a quick, interesting tour. |

We had a party of seven; 4 Adults and 3 children varying in age from 9 yrs to 14 years old. All of of us were very excited about learning the history of the jail and hoping to be scared. However, we felt that it was most imformative on history and less scary than advertised. We spoke to others in our group and they all agreed. Perhaps your marking strategies should emphasize more on the history, rather than pushing the idea that it is a haunted jail. The history stories were very interesting. But I feel that it was somewhat disappointing all together. But once again, our guide was absolutely wonderful. GReat personality, very friendly and personal, and did give scary details. But the truth of the matter is I do not believe this jail was as scary as it was advertised. Perhaps even a little misleading. Overall, we enjoyed the stories and our guide. It may ad more excitement of if more time were spent in the rooms with some scientific devices such as evps, cameras, or anythiing. More like an investigation. I'm glad we did it, but it seemed to be more of a museum in the middle of renovation than a haunted jail. Sorry. I truthfully am not sure if I would reccomend this tour or not. I am not a picky person normally, I have a over-all optimistic view of trying new things. But our over-all consences is that it was disappointing. Especially with what the advertising aspect of it. Somewhat misleading. Seems like a great historical building with great stories, but I don't think you should advertise it as someplace haunted. Needs a little work. Sorry! |

It was a lot of fun, I got some good pictures, and the tour guide was excellent. I felt it was a little disappointing for the money. For $18 - $20, I wanted to see every square inch of the building, and not just a few rooms. It only lasted an hour. Its a pretty good walk from the Bulldog office too, which I felt was an excellent opportunity to add to the tour. The tour should have started at the office, and gone by a couple of sites on the way to the jail. That would have made the tour a better value. All in all, it was fun if you're into a good spooky time. I'll definitely try out another one the next time I'm in Charleston. |

This is our 5th visit to Charleston but our first visit to the jail. We never knew it was there until we saw it featured on The Food Network. It was interesting to learn about the darker side of Charleston. A few people did capture some spiritual activity on their cameras but no physical activity. I think it is worth the walk down to the jail for this tour. |

If this tour is the scariest one of the ghost tours out there, we're definatey not going to any of the other ones. There were some interesting stories, but nothing spectacular. It's not going to make grown men cry!!! |

It was a good tour. our tour guide for the 9pm tour on 7/7/07 was very enthusiastic and informative.
it was raining and lightening that night, which added to the spookiness of the place |

When we signed up for the tour, we were told to meet at the bulldog tour building or the jail itself at 8pm. On the website, there were no directions to the jail, so we had to go down the the central part of town to meet our group. When we got there, our group was gone and we were told we wouldnt make it and we had to RUN to the jail. When we finally got there, they already started the tour. We expected a lot more to come from the tour other than looking at 3 empty rooms and looking at mold in the shape of "faces" on the wall. There were no stories told about anything that happened in the jail to make the tour interesting other than one that was easily found on the internet. I was greatly disappointed because the money could have been spent on a carriage tour where I would have learned more about Charleston than I did about this jail. It was overpriced for having to RUN 7 blocks and not hearing any interesting stories or seeing any of the rooms people would actually want to see.
I will highly suggest people save their money for something more entertaining and informative. Charleston is full of history, so this really angered me. |

We come to Charleston every couple of summers or so. Each time we come we enjoy going on one of the many local tours. The ghost tours are something that my boys in particular enjoy. The last one we went on with a different tour company was fantastic. Scared the beejeezus out of us ! We couldn't wait to go on the jail house tour. My sons are 21 & 12. The youngest being scared fairly easy.
The lady who was our guide was very nice and professional, but sort of like Grandma trying to tell you a scarey story. It was interesting learning the history of the jailhouse, but the kids were all bored stiff. Even when she turned the lights out it didn't get scary. I think with the right tour guide you would have an awesome tour, but to advertise this as one of the scariest ghost tours, well that is just plain fibbing !
I had friends here at home waiting to hear about it. They will now be going on some other tour because I told them it was a waste unless they just wanted to see the inside of the old jail. Sincerely, Jenny Bell |
