Loved the Haunted Jail Tour!!
Sat, Dec 5, 09   8:00 PM kyarborough Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This was part of a Charleston trip for my daughter's 16th birthday with my sister and her teenaged girls and my best friend and her 2 teenaged girls. My daughter chose and booked this tour! We had the BEST guide, Susan, who told numerous historical stories and facts about the old jail. She scared us silly by slamming the door in the "room for the worst criminals". We truly felt it was money well spent and we learned a lot too! Got some pics of "orbs". Thanks for being part of a terrific Sweet Sixteen celebration!

The Haunted Jail Tour was everything you want a haunted tour to be. I recommend this tour to anyone looking for a good scare. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. My entire group thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and I will definitely be taking my husband on this tour the next time we visit Charleston.

Haunted Jail Tour
Thu, Dec 3, 09   8:00 PM mjmartin76 Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
We went on the jail tour on a cold night, and it was a pretty creepy experience. Our guide Glen did a great job of telling stories, but not overdoing it. We learned some Charleston history, and also about the restoration of the jail and other old buildings in Charleston. Everyone on the tour had a fun time.

All of us agreed that Ben, our guide, was trying to sound like Captain Kirk from Star Trek. Very odd. And maybe some lights in the jail would help?? I know it is suppose to be scarey but with no lights at nite, the stairs were very hard to see.

History of Jail and Guide Were Great!

We enjoyed the tour and Guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. We all walked away saying that it was not as scary as advertised. There were children around 10 years of age and it scared them but I think the darkness spooked them more than anything. We went on the Darkside of Charleston tour last year and it was worth the money. I think we were expecting more from the jail tour and were disappointed. Sorry!

Disapointed

I don't recall the gentleman's name that led us on the tour, but he had a strange style. Although he was very nice and knew the stories well, it appeared that his total dialogue was rehearsed. Most disapointing was that he left so much out of the tour. We did not go up to the 3rd floor to look at some of the cells, or saw the gallows. Additionally, he totally overlooked the prisoner wagon outside. Many of us would have liked more sight seeing and less story telling.

Glenn is an excellent guide!

We enjoyed Glenn's enthusiasm & knowledge for the history of the Charleston area. The only complaint I have is about the clerk in the ticket office who didn't have time to show us where the haunted jail actually was, even tho we were the only people in there at the time, and the other clerk was on the phone! She did give us a map, which we figured out on our own! =very interesting!

Fantastic!

I believe our tour guide was Glenn. He asked us what kind if stories we all wanted as a group and directed the tour that way. He was a great historian and made the tour absolutely enjoyable! I will definitely take my family on another ghost tour when they visit again.

Not enough substance for the price.

The tour was interesting, however historically inaccurate. If I were younger, didn't know any better, and easily scared (a teenager), it might have been fun. But I was looking more for an accurate history lesson and more architectural discussion. I know thats not what the tour is designed for, but that what I was hoping for. Overall our tour guide was a good story teller and the building itself was intriguing, but there wasn't much substance to the tour for the money paid, unless, like I said you are 17 and on a date.

Our tour guide's name was Susan who gave a lot of history about the jail and people that were in it. My mom and I went on this tour and thoroughly enjoyed it!
