Our tour guide (and I'm sorry but I don't remember his name) was amazing. He should be very proud of the history that he has learned in his very young years. Although we didn't see or hear any ghosts - the tour was very interesting and we would highly recommend it to everyone. What a great piece of history we learned and look forward to more tours the next time we visit Charleston.

My daughters (17 & 19) and I did this tour and we loved it. The guide was great and created quite a "spooky" atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an eerie experience. Word of advice - there was a young girl around 10 or 12 and her mother had to take her out because she was too scared. Maybe a little too scary for younger kids.

I LOVED the Haunted Jail tour! The stories were spooky and really interesting. It was really cool to see the origional walls, window bars, patty wagon and even how the cell blocks left the marks on one of the origional floors. Keep up the good work!

Not as good as previous visit.

I toured the jail a few years ago. It was fun and exciting and our guide allowed us to walk around to other rooms and spend extra time. This trip the guide was good with story telling but the jail walls had been scrapped of all of its historic markings and the tour itself was quick....she took us into two rooms told us a couple of stories and then sent us on our way. I had brought my husband who had never been on the jail tour and I told him how exciting it was on my previous visit and it was a let down this time. Still had a great time in Charleston though!

Jailhouse tour good, Check-in prior tour surprise!

We came as a family group of eight with teenaged children. I would not recommend younger children for this particular tour. The Jailhouse tour was good, but needs more light at passageway transitions inside the jail. It's OK to tell folks to watch out for tripping hazards, but if you can't recognize them in the low-light, what good is it. Remember, older eyes need more light to distinguish objects in low-light than younger eyes. As for our prior to tour check-in, this was a surprise. We booked the 9:00 PM tour on Zerve approximately three weeks ahead of our arrival to Charelston. When we checked in, there was a problem and the Bulldog folks put our group with a 9:30 PM tour time. All things worked out for the tour that evening, however, if folks would put a section on the booking tour form to ask if the phone number listed is where you will be staying while visiting Charelston (or a cell phone number you are carrying) our evening would have not been changed on the fly so to speak. They contacted our home city phone number given on the form, and guess what, we were in Charelston the day of the tour when they called to inform us of the mixup.

The tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgable. She provided just the right amount of scare factor to give you chills and to allow your mind picture the horrific events within the jail walls. One of the best tours I've gone on during many historic districts visits throughout the southeast.

I took my step-kids, who are young adults visiting from Ireland. This was on their list of things to do, having taken this tour last year. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour both times, and would recommend it to teenagers and older.

Too Stationary.

The tour was interesting due impart to the tour guide's well informed narrations. The restoration makes it understandable why ther isn't much movement throughout the jail house. There were parts of the jail I thought we were going to enter but never made it into. I suggested to the guide an interactive example be set up which would show how many prisoners per square foot there were when the jail was at maximum capacity, to show how cramped the quarters may have been. All in all, a quick, interesting tour.

Excellent Guide, very imformative on the history.

We had a party of seven; 4 Adults and 3 children varying in age from 9 yrs to 14 years old. All of of us were very excited about learning the history of the jail and hoping to be scared. However, we felt that it was most imformative on history and less scary than advertised. We spoke to others in our group and they all agreed. Perhaps your marking strategies should emphasize more on the history, rather than pushing the idea that it is a haunted jail. The history stories were very interesting. But I feel that it was somewhat disappointing all together. But once again, our guide was absolutely wonderful. GReat personality, very friendly and personal, and did give scary details. But the truth of the matter is I do not believe this jail was as scary as it was advertised. Perhaps even a little misleading. Overall, we enjoyed the stories and our guide. It may ad more excitement of if more time were spent in the rooms with some scientific devices such as evps, cameras, or anythiing. More like an investigation. I'm glad we did it, but it seemed to be more of a museum in the middle of renovation than a haunted jail. Sorry. I truthfully am not sure if I would reccomend this tour or not. I am not a picky person normally, I have a over-all optimistic view of trying new things. But our over-all consences is that it was disappointing. Especially with what the advertising aspect of it. Somewhat misleading. Seems like a great historical building with great stories, but I don't think you should advertise it as someplace haunted. Needs a little work. Sorry!
