I did this tour because I had fun on the dungeon tour the night before. I was disappointed in the jail tour because of the amount of noise the art students were making in the basement. The sounds of hammers and a table saw were very distracting. Also our guide wasn't very good. She was only interested in telling her stories but not really interested in talking with the people on the tour. I felt like she just wanted to do her job and have us leave. If I can find a tour time that the art students won't be present and a better tour guide I will try this tour again.

We had a great time, but I would recommend to attend the later tour. We went to the 7pm tour, so there was still some daylight out. The darkness would of made it a lot scarier. Other than that, the tour and tour guide was great.

Our tour guide, Suzanne, was terrific. The tour was a lot of fun. The building itself has a creepy feel, and an interesting history.

not scary at all

Our leader was great, she did a great job telling historical stories and had a great sense of humor. Our big disappointment was that it was not scary...at all. Since it was built up as such a scary adventure, we were expecting some sort of fright factor. None came. it should not be advertised as something it clearly is not. it is a historical tour, nothing more. Not worth nearly $20. It was interesting, and if it was advertised as a historical tour, we might not have been so disaappointed.

We loved this tour. The tour guide was fantastic, incredibly enthusiastic and very well versed in not only the history of the jail, but in Charleston lore as well. She gave us so much interesting information and delivered it in such a way that it really stuck with you. The jail itself was very creepy and of course the tour guide helped set the mood. I would have loved to see more of the jail and hated that the tour was only 45 minutes. Didn't get any ghost photos, but I certainly think it could have been possible. They gave you ample opportunity to take pictures and our guide was more than happy to answer questions. Would do this tour again and would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants some spooky Charleston history.

Interesting but not scary

The tour guide, Suzanne, was a good story-teller and created a good effect. The tour offered good insight into crime and punishment and how the nature and magnitude of "just punishments" has evolved over the years and across cultures. However, it was not scary as you would expect a ghost tour to be.

Suzanne was wonderful! Her enthusiasm and knowledge made the tour very interesting. Definitely would recommend. My chest did get a heavy feeling and I did feel some rods of heat pierce my shoulder a few times.
