A bit uninformed and exaggerated, but entertaining

As an avid paranormal buff, I'd like to first point out that there was some misinformation provided at certain points during this tour. The guide inaccurately informed the guests that if they were to find orbs in photographs, said orbs were most likely spirits. This is slightly incorrect because, the majority of orbs found in photographs (especially ones taken with flash enabled and in an old, dusty building that is being renovated) are environmental in nature. More specifically, they are usually dust or insects and not paranormal.
Secondly, at the beginning of the tour, guests were told that although the building was being used as an educational tool for architectural students, there were no students present in the building at that time and should we hear any noise it would not be coming from a student; later on in the tour, after hearing some rummaging/clanking noises down the hall, the guide admitted that there was in fact a student still within the building.
That said, other than the fact that the guide seemed to insert a false "shadow man" sighting into his dialogue (in which he stopped talking for a moment, continued and later confessed he had seen something - although the others facing the same direction displayed no apparent reaction) it was still fun wandering around in an old, dimly-lit jail with the possibility of an experience. The stories told about the past were quite interesting and the mental pictures of life back when the jail was in use were well-painted by the guide. Overall, my group and I enjoyed our tour and would recommend it, as long as it isn't taken too seriously. |

I have officially taken all of Bulldogs tours! They are amazing!!! All of our tour guides have been fantastic and seem to thoroughly enjoy their jobs. It is the biggest part of my trip to take a tour in Charleston. The Jail Tour was by far the scariest and so much fun for my group of friends! I cannot wait for next year to do them all over again! They truly live up to the name as best tours around!!! Thanks so much for the fun time!!! |

Our tour guide, Glen, was very informative and kept us all listening and eventually breaking down the 'shyness' of our group. We started to ask more questions because he was very easy to talk to.
I just wish we toured more of the jail. We went to about 2-3 rooms and this included the art school downstairs. In the background the students were doing renovations and this really took away from the tour. I understand, being an alumni art student, that all time is crucial but we also took time (and money) to explore this area. There really weren't any artifacts/photos to look at of how the jail use to look or of any inmates. That would have been interesting and put us more in touch with what the inmates endured.
All in all though, Glen did a good job of telling us how it was when the jail was open. The best part of the tour were the real ghost stories that Glen and other tour guides have experienced. |

Glen was a great tour guide, tailoring the tour to what we wanted to hear about. Our group was very shy, so my girlfriend and I spoke up. As locals, we wanted more of a focus on the history, and that's what we got! The tour finishes in a student workshop on the bottom floor, which kind of killed the mood with the fluorescent lights. Overlook that and it was awesome! Glen made the tour though, so I hope you're lucky enough to get him as a guide. |

The tour of the old city haunted jail was excellent. We heard stories about several ghosts who haunt the jail and learned about the disturbing lifestyle and punishment of the inmates. It was very intriguing and I would take this tour again! |

Tour guide was excellent. The only thing to change is for an old jail, need to put things like 5 gallon water bottles, large cans of Planter's peanuts and renovation details out of sight. It would make it more period oriented and less of things that were not available at that time. |
