Terribly disappointed

I have been to Charleston many times and love the city; however, if this were my first v isit, I would probably not return. We had a weekend for golf, the jail tour, and some dining. Two out of three were good, but the jail t our was a pathetic excuse for a haunted house. The historical information was minimal and the aparatus that supposedly held prisoners was clearly purchased recently from Home Depot. I wasted $90 that I could have used for another carriage tour (that was informative and relevent to the city's past). I travel often to a variety of places, but this tour was the first truly ridiculous encounter I've experienced. Other tourists in my hotel were turned off by the city b/c of this tour. I hope no one only experiences the jail tour - it is not representative of a wonderful city with other worthwhile things to do and see.

Tour guide was real knowledgeable of the Chaleston Jail, and had a good presentation and way of talking with the tour group. Knew how to make the mood feel foreboding, and really complemented the natural feel of the building. Nice and creepy all around, would definitely recommend it for other people.

This was the best part of our visit to Charleston. We (my husband and teenage boys) enjoyed the tour and learned a lot about life in the early jails.

You don't have to publish this................. Great Tour but could be even better. I really enjoyed learning about the history and the tragedy of this prison. It is all just so totally amazing and is what makes the tour so great. I also appreciated the straight-forward and factual delivery of the information our tour guide shared as well as the few "haunting" type stories told. However, wIth SO MANY of the "Ghost-Hunter" based TV shows available, I'd suggest that the tour guides share more "haunting" related stories. The tour IS called a HAUNTED jail tour and that is why we chose to attend. We didnt necessarily need to have a "haunting" experience" but we would have liked to have heard more "haunting" stories and experiences. For instance, have the Arts Students that work there on a daily basis ever had any encounters? If so, what are/were they? Tell me more! Have there been any hauntings in the part of the prison where so many of the hangings took place? If so, what were they? Tell me more! Have the residents who live near the prison had any experiences? If so, what were they? Tell me more! How about the different Tour Guides? What are their stories and experiences? It might be fun to have a "trick-haunting" in one of the rooms ie something located somewhere where an attendee could be touched on the head with an unseeable item. I'm quite sure the Arts Students could put something together ;-) We had a great time. Hope this helps. BG

The jail is undergoing construction and did not appreciate men working there while we were going through the jail trying to listen to the tour guide tell a story. Not very scary.

We enjoyed the tour so much the first time we visited that we had family from out of State come to visit and took them. They also enjoyed the tour and all of Charleston! The tour guide makes it so interesting.

The stories told were real good. I think if I do this tour again I might do it in the daylight so as to see the structure and grounds better.

Disappointed with whole experience

For the cost of a ticket, I found the whole experience very disappointing...Far too expensive for a 45 minute tour, that was a 1/2 mile away (no transportation provided by BullDog and given a lousy map in which to follow on foot)...saw the yard of the jail, and 3 rooms...tour guide was dramatic, which eased the disappointment, but the facts of 1 of the ghost stories wasn't correct (I did know something of that one prisoner's exploit's)...overall experience was crappy...I will pass on using BullDog again...there are other haunted tours, for less money....

Myself and 2 teens loved this tour!

Suzzane was our tour guide and she was wonderful. We got to the jail while it was still light out and looked around outside by ourselves. Once the tour started the stories were wonderful...and creepy. I am a believer in the paranormal, however my teen daughter was unsure what to believe...until the camera incident. Her camera worked great outside. As soon as we entered the jail it stopped working. If she turned it on it acted very strange and was turning on and off by itself. we ignored this and were just upset that we couldn't get pictures inside. Other members of our group took pictures and we saw the "orbs" in their pictures....then when the tour was over our guide asked if there were any strange things that happened to us while inside. Some people described feeling something, the guide asked in anyone had any problems with their cameras or phones...we told her about ours and she said it will work again once we are away from the jail...IT DID! and to top it off, when we got back to our car we were looking at the pictures on it and there were very strange pictures that we DIDN'T TAKE...we are now all believers...there is someone in the jail. We highly recommend this tour...
