I recommend the haunted jail tour. It's a nice change of pace and something you will only see through Bulldog tours. The history is interesting and our tour guide did a great job. We could tell that she does her research and knows what she's talking about. It might be too scary for young children but I recommend for teens and up. I also enjoyed taking pictures and trying to get some "orbs" in them.

Good tour...seemed too short. And it would have been beetter, but unfortunately we didn't spot any ghosts that night. I would have also liked to hear more stories about the people that were there.

Not worth the time or money

The Hanted Jail Tour starts out with promise, the scary exterior and walls, the outergrounds. But the tour guide seemed to "recite" stories they read somewhere. The guide was not a good storyteller...and didn't really seem to be into her job. When inside the jail, you stand still in two rooms and listen to her talk for long periods of time. It's more like a history tour, which is still interesting, but you're there to try to "capture" something or at least spend time wandering around inside. At the beginning you stood still and the stories dragged on. Once you go downstairs, you are herded through quickly and then back outside in no time. Nothing to write home about.

So my family has been coming to Charleston annually for many years. We've gone on several different tours, but this one was quite different than the rest. Our tour guide, Suzanne, did a wonderful job at keeping us interested. She was quite detailed about the history of the jail, which to some could be boring, but with Charleston being so rich in history, I felt it was a very important part in this tour. While on the tour, when walking down the stairs to go to the basement, we were welcome by a swift cool breeze. We weren't really sure where it was coming from since the air is quite still in the jail & so thick you could probably cut it with a knife & warm (hence the reason they sell water before entering the tour). As the very cool breeze blasted past us, my boyfriend managed to take a picture from the top of the steps directly down to the doorway to the basement. If there was a way to upload the picture, I would. There is a person, whom looks like a soldier, standing in the doorway. Even after the breeze has stopped & we were in the basement, my shirt continued to move as though the breeze was still whizzing past me, but the breeze had stopped moments before. For whatever reason, not once did any of my family (nor I) get scared. Infact, we felt quite calm & at ease throughout the tour (myself even being comfortable enough to stay behind in some of the cells as the tour walked on). This was a very interesting experience & I would recommend it to anyone with an open mind. My boyfriend (who never believes in this kind of phenomenon) walked away a little more convinced that its possible. Who woulda thunk?

Informative, but should have included more access

The tour guide was excellent, and very informative; however, I felt like the jail tour was too short in regards to how many areas of the jail in which we where granted access to. It was great for the purpose of learning the history of the jail, but the scare factor was not as impressive. Perhaps if they allowed you to view a broader area of the overall jail in general, it would have been worth the money spent.

DON'T TAKE THIS TOUR

This tour is NOT worth the $18 and the tour guide we had was a total witch! It was NOT scarey and was actually kind of hokie with some of the goofy stuff the guide did. Alot of the jail isn't even in its original form. Definitely not worth the 7 block walk to get there nor the $18! I don't recommend it.

My little sis and I enjoyed the tour. It wasn't as much historical ghost stories like we are used to on ghost tours though.... it seemed to be almost more like a s'eance. Lots of people on the tour took pictures and we definitely saw some orbs. Spooky!!

Most definitely not worth the price...

We spent 45 minutes standing in 3-4 rooms with a young lady that seemed to be doing her best to entertain us with stories of murders, hangings, etc. However, the stories were NOT entertaining nor even slightly "scary". Pretty big disappointment at $18.00 a head.
