Fun and Spooky

We enjoyed this tour; scheduling for after dark made it especially "spooky." The guide (AJ) was enthusiastic and seemed to enjoy his presentation. The total cost was very reasonable in comparison to many other guided tours in the Charleston area.

It was a hot stormy night to start with. Our tour guide was an excellent story teller, and the factual history she gave as an introduction was interesting and scary in its own way. Once inside the dark halls of the jail your imagination just runs away with you. Dark shadows moving in the empty rooms, cool air blowing your hair from a dark windowless cell, and down in the lowest level a feeling of being watched and followed had me and my very mature, grown up friends, screaming out loud. It is really a weird place, but for the paranormal explorer or even a history buff like me, you gotta check it out.

Not only is this building creepy, but the guide we had was fantastic. She was entertaining, knowledgeable, and full of energy. She knew her stuff. Definitely a fun way to spend an hour or so. Make sure you go after dark!

When we got to the jail, I thought oh my gosh what have I talked myself into doing. But once the tour started, I was disappointed. Down in the basement, you can tell the noise was a set up by other employees because you heard them outside laughing when they made the noises. For me, I was miserable. Didn't know we would walk through some grass (little bit not much) and I got attacked by mosquitoes. The Jail is not A/C which I did not think about so it was extremely hot inside. I advise not to do this tour during the hottest days. And do the tour at night, it is more fun because there is not much lighting in the building. The history of the jail is very fascinating. But as for being scary...I don't see where it is.

My husband and I was somewhat pleased with the tour. I surprised my husband with it so he was a little curious standing on the outside but once he got inside he was fine. Our tour guide (a middle age lady, maybe Suzanne) was good. It is more informational than scary. Maybe if you believe in ghost it would be a little better.

We went at night after dark so it added to the scare factor. I think our tour guide, Suzanne, did a great job bleanding historical fact with making the tour just scary enough to keep it interesting. She tells a good tale of the old jailhouse. I would recommend bringing a camera. The only change I would make is to have at least some form of dim lighting in the basement. It was a little hard seeing the rooms as they were only lit by the sporadic flashing of the cameras and camera phones. Great tour and awesome tour guide. Great value for the dollars spent. Thanks for the show.

Not as good as it could have been.

The tour was good, but left a little to be desired. I've been on other Bull Dog tours where the tour guide told more interesting stories and went into more detail. Our tour guide made it feel like more of a history lesson than a haunted tour. I also wish our tour guide would have had a better flash light so that we could've seen more detail in the building and seen into the rooms he was talking about. Lastly, I really wish the girls at the check-in desk would have told us that the 6 block walk was going to take 35 minutes. Those were the longest blocks I've ever seen! My husband and I are in shape, but we were with 4 family members in their 60s who were pretty unhappy about the long journey to the jail.

Was so very glad that we pre-purchased our tickets to the Haunted Jail weeks before we arrived for our vacation as each night we arrived at the Bulldog tour office for another activity, this was sold out and many sad faces were seen of people trying to get tickets. Plan ahead!!!!!! This is very popular!!!!! Very nice to actually be allowed to go inside the jail and wander about. We have done numerous "haunted tour" activities over the years and always plan our trips including at least one like this and now it has become one of our top three!!!! It was nice that you didn't feel rushed.....have been on tours before where the scoot you in and out lickety split to turn a faster buck with the amount of people they try to push in and out, but, I must say, it was a nice pace they set where you didn't feel rushed and could take that extra minute to photograph a room without 29 strangers mingling about in it. Provided for a night of good old-fashioned fun and gave us lots of memories! Thanks!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!

I thought the event brought a very historical view of the city of Charlston.
